Lads,

I remember a thread a couple of years ago asking about the price of these - but i can't find it :-\

Does anyone know what a set of these is worth in VGC? (No I'm not looking to buy or sell).

Cheers.

I paid $255.00 US last year for mine, they have a few dents but no gutter scrapes - plastic D's are pretty Good. Overall I would rate them as "Good", cost me around $400.00 including postage.

I've seen them go for around $300.00 - $400.00 average on US ebay.

There was a set that were mint - never been on the car from new, apparently, (looked it too), that went for around $800.00, from memory - US ebay again...

Never seen a set for sale on "Aussie" ebay.

Yeah those ones go for alot on ebay USA. You seen them on craigslist occasionally for over $1000. Doesn't mean they actually get that much for them though. Around $500 seems to be a more reasonable price.

One thing to watch out for (if you're buying a set) is that they are all the same type D hubcap. There were 2 different D hubcaps (early and later style). You can tell them apart because of the location of the valve hole. Earlier ones had the valve hole below the D in line with a spoke. Later ones had the hole above the D inline with the opening between the spokes

I got given a pair quite a while ago and sold them for about $70 for the 2. Had some surface rust but no damage. Probably too cheap but there were only two.

About 4 yrs ago I finally sold a set of 4 that I had hoarded for nearly a decade for just over 400 bucks. No dents or scrapes & sound 'D's so physically in good sound condition, but due to fine surface rust all over they needed restoration (stripping, re-chroming, polishing, painting, etc etc) before they could really be used on even a half-way decent car.

FWIW, I would consider a full tidy set without surface rust ready for use, with perhaps just a freshen-up of the black paint needed, should be worth far more today if the cost of restoration for scruffy ones is factored in.
