Custom rocker cover breather fittings

Many moons ago in my VLT days, I discovered by accident a stainless fitting with a fine thread size that suited the rocker cover breathers on RB30 engines. Its hard to explain as it not a normal thread size but a thread from a bi-lock pressure fitting. The rocker thread can either go into a 90' or straight into a bsp thread.

 

 

Rather than tap or weld in a new thread to the rocker cover to suit fittings other than standard, these fittings screwed straight in the standard hole and allowed you to adapt to dash fittings etc. I was looking at the L series rocker cover the other day and they're exactly the same thread size.

 

 

I was thinking of getting some of these fittings, cutting the rocker thread off and ordering some weld on dash fittings and tig'ing the two together to create a screw in dash fitting for L series engines (or RB engines). I was thinking around -8 to -10 size.  Helps when running hoses to a catch can etc. Not sure if this would appeal to many but if your interested let me know.

Well big interest indeed. Knocked a prototype up in the lathe at work anyway due to recent interest in such a fitting in the VL Turbo scene and on Hybrid Z.

If I had heaps of interest maybe a bit cheaper.

I'm also trying to incorparate the dash fitting after the 90' bend so you'd only have to buy a straight speedflow fitting for your hose to keep costs down but I don't think it would look as good.

Here is another option. Elbows that screw straight into rocker cover thread, then tig welded to either -8 or -10 AN flare. This allows you to just buy a straight speedflow fitting instead of a bend. The inside diameter of the -8 elbow fitting can be drilled out to the same Id of a -10 as well, if you doubt the flow of a -8.

Just updating some prices.

 

I've found a new supplier of parts and can offer these fittings at a lower price.

 

These 'straight' fittings screw straight into your rocker cover:

 

-8 = $35

-10 = $45

-12 = $55

 

The -8 pieces are solid, straight from a CNC machine and the -10 and -12 are two stainless threads tig welded together.

have you looked into Pro-Flow fittings? they are often cheaper then the speedflow items.

they also come in several different finishes, so you can tailor them to the 'feel' of the bay.

the fuel line on my zed is larger than that breather ,what is the benefit of it all ? if you go to that trouble what is wrong with the standard breather, you have pics of a RB30 with a vaccuum hose size pipe protruding out of the valve cover , bit of revision required there i think!!!!!!!!

Wow so your engine needs Bigger than 1/2" fuel lines, how big 3/4", one inch?? Good job, I'm sure it needs it too. Maybe you need a better pump. Revision??

If you don't want to go to the trouble than you don't have too. Some people do and these fittings make the job easier.

yea, i guess if your getting them off ebay, then they will be reasonably cheap.

 

If you end up needing a more 'regular' supply, then the VPW ones are a good option through a local parts store.

We sell them at work, and we hare room for LOTS of improvement in the quoted prices.

 

btw, what sort of power output would you be expecting with 1 inch fuel lines?

About 3000hp?

Guys, just letting you know you can get the anodized fittings to suit from earls for about $23 total, that's for the adapter and elbow fitting. I have put some into my cover and just stumbled across this thread

Speedflow also have a similar fitting for about $20 I think. As with yours, you have to re-tap the factory rocker thread though, which requires removing the rocker cover etc and possibly damaging nice paint if its already painted.

 

These ones screw straight in. 

 

Yours look good though. Did you say $23 for the rocker fitting and the elbow?? I thought elbows alone were much dearer than that. Do you have a good contact 

Have you set up your catch can yet? And in case anyone is wondering did you just drill straight through the rocker cover for the second breather and run a tap through the hole or weld in a thread to suit. Feel free to put up a pic of your here too.

Its a 1/2 bi-lok tube fitting with the compression cap removed. Good luck finding someone to sell them to you. I had to create an international business account in India.

Try Swag-lock of Gyro-Lock fittings their swage fitting thread should be the same
