luvemfast Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Took the head off for what was a suspected blown head gasket. After snapping the head bolt between the exhaust ports of 3 and 4 *shakes fist* (and blames Ben) It was discovered that even after removing the radiator, there was coolant quite high in the block behind cyl6 (closest to the firewall). That would explain why it was running hot if there was a blockage. Anyone know what has happened or has any ideas? I was thinking that this is the perfect time to get my arse in gear and finish rebuilding that L28 sitting in parts in the garage. Pretty devo as I thought the car was going to be good for lots of events this year Quote
benny Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 hey hey hey... don't blame me for your incompetence brother... p.s thanks for the brew!! Quote
C.A.R. Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Not unusual if the car has been sitting without any (or old) inhibitor for a while. The bock is probably just full of gunk... Quote
luvemfast Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 Can I just use a cleaner to get rid of the crap inside? Home brew goes alright hey Ben Quote
dat2kman Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 did/does it run the small water pipe from the bottom of the back of the head ( rhs)to and around the front of the head into the thermo housing? I found ( with competition motors) that they can get a hot spot at back of head. Also I use the "Frank Tonnitto - TEFBA" top radiator hose inline filter, it has a screw cap ( dont loose the fine square rubber oring seal!! ) and it is amazing how much fine particles of "gunk" comes out, and would have gone into the radiator, even with a hotanked cleaned engine that has done very few k's. Clean out and run a tap into head bolt holes, surprising how much gunk comes out of these. Water somehow finds it way past the threads and sits in the bottom. Snap on ( damn pricey stuff) make a neat tiny up your nose and down your hole viewer scope thingy with a LED light, It is very surprising to see how unclean a supposedly clean block can be. Quote
