Bruce Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I have currently got a Hitachi external reg alternator on my 240z. It has finally called it a day. A while back I bought an L28 out of 280zx which came with all accessories including an internal reg Bosch alternator. There is countless threads on the net about upgrading to the internal reg Hitachi alternator but I couldn't find anything on the equivalent Bosch unit. I bolted it on last weekend. There is four wires on the current alternator. The wiring on the alternator seemed to be ok. From what I read, I use the Red and White wire (which feeds power to the battery), the black wire and the yellow wire. The other wire is now redundant??. I just have a question regarding the external reg plug. Does anyone know if I need to fit the diode that is described in the Hitachi IR upgrade and if so, has anyone got any pics or can describe the fitment of this? The other option is to order one of the plugs which has the diode included. thanks Bruce Quote
NZeder Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 If you car is fitted with an AMP meter then you need the diode. 260z with Volt meters don't need the diode. If you check how the Amp meter circuit works it will explain how power stays on without the diode and the car will run on once IGN is killed Quote
