Gyra Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 The windscreen wipers on my 240 have never automatically parked when turned off - is this normal? It's annoying, but one of those jobs I've never got round to investigating... G Quote
Scoota G Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Sounds like the relay is unplugged of not working. The relay is on the top of the drivers side kick panel mounted to a bracket. Quote
Huw Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 or someone has replaced the wiper motor with a later one and not got round to setting it up right (that's what I have done...kinda annoying but you get used to it) Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 10, 2010 Moderators Posted January 10, 2010 If the Honda wiper motor conversion has been done without a 5 pin relay, the wipers don't park. If you need the details, I have a small txt file if you need it. I converted my 240Z to the Honda Civic wiper motor. If you do a search, you should be able to find the thread. Quote
Gyra Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Found the problem; and no, it wasn't the relay, or a non-standard motor - thanks for the hints anyway. I pulled the wiper motor assembly out, and found that the micro-switch on the back of the gear-box section had fractured in half. This micro-switch is activated by a cam spinning on the back end of the gear shaft. In normal operation the switch would be shorted as the cam rotated past. With the end of the switch snapped off the switch was permanently shorted - ie the unit was fooled into thinking the wipers were permanently parked. Sadly the micro-switch doesn't appear to be easily repaired, so I'm on the search for a new wiper motor assembly. Maybe one of those Honda units, but surely there's a suitable Nissan unit? I've attached a couple of pics of the unit disassembled for reference. Quote
