It happened a couple weeks ago... began with me thinking it was a flat battery, when that was rectified and car still didnt start i thought it was the solenoid on the started as the starter would crank but i could not hear the engine cranking.

There also seems to be something wrong with my battery as it discharges quite quickly, its still under warranty so no worries there.

now the part thats got me stumped...

I put in another fully charged battery, and turn the key to acc. Everything works, radio, lights, i can see light blinking on my immobilizer, etc. As soon as i turn to start the engine i can hear the starter for a fraction of a second and then nothing everything just dies, no lights, radio no flashing immobilizer light. It's like there is no battery installed.

What is happening to my beloved 240?, i just want to drive her so bad. Plus i haven't smelt of exhaust fumes in months ;D

Check your earthing strap, even terminals that look clean and making correct contact will deliver power until the your ignition is put to task.

It sounds like you are losing conductivity.

Quick check to see if this may be the problem is to earth the ground terminal on your battery to a good clean conductive point on your chassis via a good jumper lead.

If it isnt the ground, or negative, then try cleaning the inside of the battery terminals and the terminals themselves with sand paper or a cleaning tool you can pick up from and auto parts retailer like Super Cheap.

Don't turn the key all the way to the 'stop' when in the start position.

i.e. when turning form 'ign' to 'start', only turn it far enough to engage the starter, not all the way to the end.

I second this. My daily driver does the same thing. Just have to turn the key and hold it slightly past the on position to let it kick over. Haven't bothered finding the cause of it because it's an easy lazy fix, just don't turn all the way ;)

okay so i connected up a jumper lead and connected it to one of the bolts on the strut tower. I then went to start it, i didnt turn the key all the way but it still happened. After everything shuts off i disconnect battery and reconnect it straight away but nothing turns on, none of the accessories, i have to give a few hours before any of the accessories start working again. Is this helpful in anyway? Thanks

A thought..

If your car has a fusable link, this maybe U/S, when it heats up it separates therefore breaking the circuit and rejoins when its cools down.....

Sach, I'd be checking all major electrical connections; like battery terminal and where the cable enters it and at the starter and block ground. I have a feeling it could be terminals.
