Just wondering if anyone has a copy of a 240Z or 260Z diagram/design plans i.e. side, top & front views with accurate dimensions etc. I've studying a games design degree, and would love to accurately model a Z. The easiest option would be to work off photographs, but it never looks "right"

this is the only one i can find thats floating around on the net. but its clearly inaccurate - just look at the front headlight buckets side on!

the most accurate way would be to take photos at a really long distance to try to remove perspective - but the furthest i can get away from my car currently is a couple of meters!

I've got a video on how to make a DIY 3d scanner using a web cam and a laser pointer, would be perfect for the 240z model. I'll find it when I go home :)

Yeah there are a few variables that effect the final quality of the piece, mainly the quality of the video camera you use and the fine-ness of the laser pointer. I wouldn't use it to scan a model and go 'ok it's done', I would use it to scan the model in and then use it as a 3d reference when modelling your car. If you had the space, ie a big enough shed, you can scale it to scan your actual car which would be a lot more accurate!

Sexual Sushi, I'd be interested in learning how that works. what software does it use to render the resulting model?

I did a great effect using a green screen and a turntable from a microwave oven. Always interested in that stuff.

we get stuff 3d scanned at work, imho its not that great and takes to much post scan input to ever be usable for visual surfaces. it is good however for checking how close you're model is to the orginal

i watched the grant warwick tutorials http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=62437 on how to model in max the other week and gave it a quick go, seems easy and forgiving enough (i use max a bit, but only to render solids produced in solidworks/proE)

in my down time at work i'm slowly working on a 240z model in NX (what GM uses for its cars) using its history free modeling, which is interesting to get my head around!

the way is see it is 3dsmax is like making stuff in photoshop, where the other programs are more like illustrator
