for all the engine parts stick to the 280zx stuff. As for oil it really depends what has been done to the engine. If its been recently rebuilt go with a performance (thinner) oil. If the engine is well worn go slightly thicker so it doesn't blow smoke.

If your L28 is running the 240 carbs, don't get the 280ZX fuel filter; that one is for EFI systems. Just go with the clear plastic Ryco ones. For the oils, in the Nissan manual, they just recommend the Castrol oils. No need to go to full synthetics.

Engine Oil: I was using a 10-40w oil in my l28et but found I blew a little smoke on boost... Now I am using a 20-50w and dont have an issue.

Gearbox Oil: I'm using VMX80

Diff: Using a Castrol VPR90 (I think is the designation). Put it in yesterday so we'll see how we go. Uses about 1.4litres

Coolant: I use a tectoyl branded goop because I have an ally radiator... Most would suit I would think.

Plugs: BP6ES-11 would be fine for an atmo car. I use the same plug but gap them down to .9mm for use in the turbo :)

just a note regarding tectaloy. ive seen some bad stuff using tectaloy coolants. now it just could be me and my case and few other recomendations from radiator place.

but since than i only use the manufacturers coolant ie nissan coolant for nissans, motocraft for ford etc......... u get my point. apperently some coolants react wierdly with the alloy and may cause issues.

since then i never had any issues. now not saying that tectaloy hasnt got their finger out and fixed their issue since. its been few years but i rather play it safe.

No Mate, no cat in the 240... Hmm, question to pose to an engineer though as if the 280 came equiped with it, they might require you to run one.

I use the ally specific one... Dont have any overheating problems at all and the condition of the coolant has remained good despite 20,000km being put on it since december... (I drive it a lot :D)

Point taken though. Manufacturers spec is usually best. But my engine is a bastardised thing anyway... L24 block, unknown guts (told to be l28 internals) and L28e head, etc...

i use 10w30 usualy castol edge or magnatech ive never had a drahmah with it never blows smoke and always runs sweet, as for plugs if your using it as a daily driver id go with ngk bp5es plugs as they burn a little hotter and dont tend to fowl as easy yet again no drahmah with them, as for fuel i use 95ron or 98ron fuel with no additives and there is now noticable were on any parts but the additives are up to the individual.

hope this helps

cheers pauly

Cats were on cars from (I think) 85-86 onward. Mick is right, if it ran on leaded, theres no way it would have a cat.
