mtopxsecret6 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 hello, well.. ive bought the car in need of being put together.. The engine runs.. but im not getting a tacho signal.. well. not consistantly. When i first started it up.. the signal was reading 2-3oo rpm.. and when it sounded like it was around 3-4ooorpm.. the tacho only read 15oo.. since then.. i have had no reading.. but today.. turning the ignition on. the tacho spun to 8k.. not even with the engine running. Then once it ran for a few seconds.. it dropped back to zero and stayed their.. Any ideas on my problem? it has a gt coil.. a resistor.. and i have no idea how to tell if it has plugs or electronic dizzy thingy.. its a 75 2+2,, that has an auto to manual conversion. thanks. 2+2er Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Are the connections to the coil and ballast resistor connected correctly? It’s a relatively simple circuit from memory. Hunt round for this wiring diagram "260z-rhd-wiring", it’s the closest one if found for the 75 2+2. Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 do you mean on the forums.. or google? Quote
Sirpent Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I can help with a Nissan diagram, but wont be till Thursday as Im off work tomorrow and it's all on my P.C. If you can wait, send me a PM Cheers John Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 is there a capacitor and a resistor on the tacho itself? Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 how can i test to see if im getting a tach sigmal being sent.. where is it being sent from? thanks. Quote
2+2er Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I just emailed you the wiring diagram. the signal comes from the coil every time the points open it sends a pulse to the coil telling it to release the charge. the tacho measures the frequency of the pulses via a Black with white wire from the coil. mtopxsecret6 Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 just following up on this topic, well.. i checked all my connections, cleaned them etc.. stil no tacho. In theory, if they were dirty enough for the tach signal not to get through, the car wouldn't start right? So im still tending towards the guage itself. So, how do you remove the guage? I read the haynes manual.. and it was very vauge.. it tell's you how to remove the speedo, but not the tacho.. i had a bit of a look in there.. and heck.. how the hell do you get it out!.. I know there is a screw on the front face.. how do you then get to it from there? Now, is there capacitors etc inside the cover itself? Im thinking maybe something has dried out being so old. Thanks. reverendzed Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 There's no easy way, either it's drivers seat out to give you room to get under the dash to undo the mount or dash out...unless I've been doing it the hard way :-\ Rev. Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 well, i went out for a bit more of a play, and it started to work.. only up to about 2k, then it stopped working again. very frustrating. id like to keep the original tacho.. but im seriously tending towards an aftermarket item. I am running an apexi rm, but i still want a working tacho in the dash aswell. Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 does anybody know what size aftermarket tacho fits in the original position? Thanks. Quote
garvice Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I have a 100mm Tacho in mine, little bit smaller then factory but a good fit. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 25, 2009 Moderators Posted August 25, 2009 To remove the tacho, there are two wingnuts on the back that you have to undo, then unplug the electrical connector and remove that screw from the front/top and it should come out from the front. It may be easier with the steering wheel removed. Removing it is simple; re-installation is the PITA! edit: Sorry..that's for 240Z! Garvice has the right info! Quote
garvice Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Oh yeah, to remove there is the front screw and there is also a screw at the rear of the tacho. You can see the brackets underneath the speedo and tacho although I am not using the tacho one. Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 bugger.. it doesn't look like i'm going to enjoy pulling this tacho out Quote
garvice Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 It's actually quite easy once you find the right screw. Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 garvice, did your tacho come with the indicator lights on the face, or did you custom fit them on yourself? thanks. Quote
garvice Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 No, I made them. Here is the writeup http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=143337 Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 awesome.. such a simple concept! Quote
garvice Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Cheers, One day I'll get back to making it work with the original dash plate though. Really do prefer the original font/tacho face. Quote
