crowe Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Hi all, I have had some recent electrical troubles and narrowed alot of the issues to my fusible links. They were not delivering full current on things causing lights to dim and some other weird anomalies. They are 30 + years old and lightly corroded. This combined with dirty terminals was not good. Anyway, went to Nissan to get new ones and they only stock 1 of the links in Australia, the rest need to come from Japan. Nissan price was $23 ea. I decided to buy some special silicone fusible link wire and fittings and make my own. They are identical to the factory ones, use the same gauge wire, same length and come soldered and crimped. My 260z has three of them (black, green and brown), I think some of the 240's only have 2. Price is $5 each for fellow zedders including free postage. If you are having some weird electrical problems i suggest you start here with these links, also handy to have a spare should you need them. If your interested let me know. Callum Quote
sexual_sushi Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 haha yeah there are always posts about 'where can i find fuseible links' on the american forums but is so cheap and easy to make your own! nice work to my knowledge, the corrosion is actually how they work. Rather than blowing with a power surge they slowly deteriorate and absorb the surge. I made up some and replaced them on my car a few years ago, then they had to be replaced again so i rigged up some normal fuses but the problem is they get hot and melt (i think i have a small electrical issue but i think this would happen to most of them anyway, as i said, they are meant to blow slowly over time) Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 6, 2009 Moderators Posted March 6, 2009 Not really. I'm sure its just low melting point conductors. Its supposed to be the weakest point in the electrical system. The reason they corrode is because most fusible link connections have lost their covers and rain water or any water rests in there and corrodes the connections. I have found in my old house some d!@#$head replaced the fuse wire with thick copper wire.... I can tell you I found that out by accident. Replaced it asap! (and checked all the others ) Quote
