Administrators gav240z Posted May 31, 2005 Author Administrators Posted May 31, 2005 You forgot blue and I added the red needles Quote
zedevan Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 interesting blue colour, how do they make the needles red? coz they are white....from memory...just paint? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 2, 2005 Author Administrators Posted June 2, 2005 Yeah i think it's just a case of spray paint in a can. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Hey Gav, whats with the blue line down the center of the file? Or is that just on my computer? Doesnt Matter I have the original somewhere. Which I used to make another set, but never finished them off. Actually what would be a good idea is to make a kph speedo version, so that you could past them over the speedo and convert mph to kph, instead of swapping in a 260z speedo. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 12, 2005 Author Administrators Posted July 12, 2005 Hey Mr C, I don't know about any blue line I'll have to take a look. Too right on the KPH conversion I think I tried it some time ago when my Photoshop skills were very n00b and it looked awful might give it another shot at some point. Quote
zedevan Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 i've pick up another set of gauges, apparently from the same year and stuff as my car but it has amps not volts so i'm not sure which one i'm going to use. i'm planning on doing my own faces for them in illustrator but i havn't even got to scanning them in yet :S and the holidays are nearly at an end so i dont see it happening anytime to soon, i've been working to much, but atleast i'll have money to do more exciting things to my car... with lighting the gauges i think i'm just going to go with one colour (either white or green) unless i use the 3 (well 2) colour leds and come up with an easy way to change it without having to run like 3 lots of wires to each gauge...as the 3 colour ones to change colours you put the current through the other way so my understanding of it so far would be that it wouldnt' b that hard to do...once i know what wires are which and i have an IC from a uni project that fades the leds properally by pulsing them on and off instead of using a resistor that eventually burns out... Mr Camouflage Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Hey Zedevan, What year is your car? The Amps gauge is from a 240z and the volts gauge it typically in a 260z. Maybe the 73 240z changed over to the Volts gauge, as the 73 240z has alot of similar bits to the 260z, that earlier 240z didnt have. If you have a 260z then you might not have the right wiring to use the amp gauge, or you might have to do some mods to get it working. Using dual colour leds and switching is a good idea. The gauges have a green globe cover inside the guage, which gives the gauges the green colour, you will have to remove them if you want white leds. And you'll need to use the really bright ones, but you probably know that. Heres the inside of the temp/oil gauge, showing the cover. Quote
zedevan Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 yeah i've removed the green bits from the 3 smaller gauges and its kinda orangy, i perfer it over the greeny colour and my headunits orangey so it kinda goes with it more so. the guy i bought them off said that in 76 they changed over to volts and before that in the 260's they are amps, but mine had volts in it and its an 76 january car and i was thinking it wouldn't work straight away when i plugged it in, i havn't even checked to see if they plugs are the same for it, but as you have to connect amps in series and volts in parallel i'm guessing it wont work. which would be more useful? i dont see the white faces happening for quite awhile :S but i think i'll put some white paper in one of htem so i can c what it looks like with just the globes in there... PS: let me know if you give it a shot. Thanks for this - nice work. I am gonna chage the fonts a little and possibly put them on the car' date=' havent decided if it will look good yet. Hey Gav, whats with the blue line down the center of the file? Or is that just on my computer? Doesnt Matter I have the original somewhere. The blue lines that you see are the guide lines used in Photoshop. They will not be seen when the imsge is printed all they are is just guides to assist correct positioning of digits, etc. Any luck with the kph conversion yet Gav? Nick. Thanks for reviving the topic - otherwise I wouldn't have found it. Quote
zedevan Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 i was going to scan my spare speedo these holes and trace in illustrator, but it now appears i'm going to back to uni tomoz, it only hit me this afternoon, so much i wanted to do these holidays that i didn't actully do... so are all 240'z speedo's mph huh? if an over lay of a 260z speedo would be accurate enough over a 240z speedo i'm happy to scan mine soonish, although i am worried of scratching my scanner badly hehe i was wondering how an overlay off americans was going to help us over here...
