reverendzed Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I think I may know the answer but thought I might throw it out anyway. Today I was sitting at a busy intersection waiting to get across with a break in traffic, so I was 'riding' the clutch a little looking for a quick break. When the break in traffic did happen i popped the clutch and put my foot down...only to hear the motor revving out and not going anywhere fast with that residual burning smell that accompanies a burning clutch! when it cooled slightly and i changed my undies after seeing an 18 wheeler bearing down on me, the clutch seemed to work O.K. But I never want to experience that again ...dangerous! The clutch was put in new when the new motor and manual conversion went in about 4K ago, so it is relatively new but the reality is something is WRONG...any ideas? Rev. Quote
pauly_adams Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 i dare say your cluch sliped lol, being serious though did it shutter then slip or just slip. cheers pauly Quote
reverendzed Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 Pauly..it was slipping and allowing the motor to rev high without going anywhere very quickly! Quote
Scoota G Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Sounds like it just overheated it a bit, probably not riding it would be good, make happy transmission. Quote
V8Datto Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I had a problem with a new clutch slipping once, turned out when I was putting the engine back in the car I slightly bent the fins on the pressure plate. It was a throw away job after 3 mouths Quote
pauly_adams Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 i had my old clutch slip just like yours but it shuttered, the reason why i asked if it shuttered is because, if it shuttered then it grabed then slipped, sounds to me that riding it heated up your plate and they dont grab very well after that. if the problem persists please see your doctor lol, or change your presure plate to a heavy duty one that should sort you out. cheers pauly Quote
dazzed Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 when the car had a 3.5 auto diff you need to slip it even more to get it off the mark Quote
reverendzed Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 dazzed, I hear what you're saying but I don't understand your point...are you saying that this may have worn the clutch? would appreciate your thoughts. Quote
