mtopxsecret6 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 ok.. while i was looking underneath around the fuel tank, i noticed the fuel pump didnt match the one that was in the haines manual. It also had a fuel filter from the tank to the pump. Does anybody have an idea as to what it is out of? Also where is the mechanical fuel pump? Quote
Hunter Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 It looks like a Facet Fuel Solid State Electric Pump. Does it make a ticking noise when you put power to it? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FACET-SOLID-STATE-ELECTRIC-Fuel-PUMP-7-10-PSI_W0QQitemZ400020018142QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 Quote
Hunter Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The round silver thing mounted to the front right hand side of the head is the standard mechanical fuel pump. The early 260Z 2+2's do not have a rear electric fuel pump while later models do. http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=10930&pos=16 Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 well it certainly looks the same. It says japanese writting on it though. I do not have the mechanical fuel pump on my engine. In the haines manual, it says it should have a electric pump under the fuel tank which cuts out at 400rpm.. and the mechanical pump for their after. Either so, this pump isnt what the standard one looks like according to the haines manual? So does this make it a better pump than the original item? Quote
RBZ 260 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 thats a Hitachi symbol stamped. So its a Hitachi fuel pump for carby systems. i cant read the nmbers stamped on it but im sure if u google hitachi fuel pump and some of those numbers, you end up with more details. but it does look a lot like the Facet fuel pump. mtopxsecret6 Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 It has JIDOSHAKIKI CO LTD written on the fuel pump itself. So is it common for this style of pump? Or do they mainly run the standard cylindrical style fuel pump with the mechanical pump aswell? MIne is a 75 model 2+2 which was an auto.. I just doubled checked.. and mine definately doesnt have a mechanical fuel pump. It must have come out with the electric pump only im guessing. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 my 260z is a 76 2+2 model and it only had the electric cylindrical type fuel pump. same one as descibed in service manual. your original one must have died and its been replaced with that one. is the mechanical pump on the engine and is it connected. sometimes if mechanical packs up they replace it with electrical one. my 240z has mechanical pump which hoses have been disconnected and its running similar pump as per your pictures. except mine is the Facet brand with slightly different hose attachments. but very similar. if it runs dont worry about it too much. mtopxsecret6 Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 mine hasnt got any mechanical pump at all. It has a blanking plate where the pump is spose to be. OK.. it seems to work.. i can here it pumping when i turn the ignition on. So hopefully it should all be good. Quote
Sirpent Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Guys its a standard pump that was used on RX4 mazda Rotary's, I actual pulled on off one back in the eighties and ran it with my Webers for years, they are a really good solid pump. Quote
