sydney mike Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Hi all, as some of you know, I recently had my auto Z converted to 5 speed, with some hiccups along the way. One problem being the stick sitting too far forward and fouling on the console. But, with Thomas (nuclear_z) to the rescue, that problem is solved. A big thanks to Thommo Can someone show me how the leather boot is usually attached to the console. Is it with clips/bracket? 2 sided tape? I am thinking of the momo boot that will attach to the bottom of the momo knob I have or should I go for oem one that might come with fitting hardware? cheers, Mike Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Hey Mike, When I did my conversion I bought a leather shift boot off ebay and I'm quite pleased with how it looks. It's a remake of the original 260z one apparently. I used clips to attach it to the bottom of the centre console but they were given to me by my mechanic so I can't tell you where I got them. Check the thread below to see how it looks: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2768.15.html Quote
sydney mike Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Thanks Stevo, looks great! I think I'll try Warren at AllZparts first for the boot but they'll prob be on holidays Failing that I guess i'll try ebay from the states. Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 No problem man, make sure you post pics Quote
nuclear_z Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Hi Mike! Hope the gear stick is still connected If you are looking for clips to hold the boot on, try trim clips that hold on dressings to external seams on cars... The ones from mini seams on should work a treat. Let me know if you want some because I will pick them up and send them on for you. Cheers, Thomas Quote
sydney mike Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Hi Thomas, I picked up a momo leather boot and sourced some clips from my mass of 120Y bits I have at home. Trial fitted looks great. Just have to wait to get the inner rubber boot before I put everything back together. Am going to try AllZparts tomorrow or if they don't have one, ebay. Also considering a stereo at this stage since the console is out. Gearstick has not come off at this stage! Quote
George Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 momo looks nice. didn't want one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/240Z-ORIGINAL-GEAR-SHIFT-BOOT_W0QQitemZ150319140975QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item150319140975&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Quote

nuclear_z Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Mike, Can you please take a photo of your boot and send it to me. I will need to get a boot for my console soon and have not seen anything I like. Cheers, Thomas Quote
sydney mike Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 I bought the "performance black" one, screws on the bottom of my "Anatomic long" momo knob. Here's a link to all their boots & knobs: http://www.autotek.com.au/cart/cart_product_index.aspx?catid=10&page=momo&mid=23 Quote
nedloh312 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I bought a cheapo from Supercheap. It looks good and to fit it, i took off the metal bar that holds the original down (4 screws, 1 is hard to get too so i took one of the electrical switches out (Clips in) and put the screwdriver through there.) Then i made a small hole around the boot, screwed it back on and applied a tiny bit of super glue to the top of the boot near the gear knob. Watch out though, i did it too high up and when i shifted to 5th, the boot came unstuck, no hassle though. Looks great and was only 10$ from supercheap. Quote
