Toecutter Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I was reading CLASSIC SPORTS CAR MAGAZINE today, (think thats the right name), and there was a story by the magazines photographer on a photo shoot on an old green CSL BMW, very nice. On the day of the shoot he stumbled across a concrete mixing yard early on the foggy morning and used it for a few pics. Needless to say the shots came out looking good. The artical went on to give a few tips on this type of photography. Anyway this got me thinking it's nice to get good pics of the cars we pour hours of work tinkering with so they can really catch the viewers eye. I've always wanted to go down to Docklands in Melbourne to get some qulity pics but my intentions are to do this just before dusk and I always seem to get distracted with it. Over the years I've seen some really cool Z pics like by the beach, industrial locations, city scapes and some great ones from Japan. For example the pics on that SR240 site are very nice and I remeber seeing a very nicely composed series of pics of a few Z travelling through Europe. So the question I'd like to throw out there is recommendations on where you guys think would be a good location for Z pics around Melbourne? Cheers Sulio Quote
zedevan Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 yeah one of the guys from my high school always gets nice pics of his cars at docklands, generally at night with the lights under the bridge there, i'll try to find some of them on the net... one night i was on the roof of some crown parking and i thought that would look pretty sweet as it would included the top of the buildings, the only issue with night shots ofcourse being you need a tripod...and you'd have to pay to get into it, and getting it empty so it didn't include heaps of other cars could be an issue and then the great ocean road i'm sure would be a nice pic of the zed in its "natural habitat", i've got some of my car at that spot where that insurance add had those old people having a picnic or whatever they were doing, but as i didn't take them on the road or up the cliff a bit the angles not that nice and doesn't really include any water, but next time i'll think about it more and put in the extra effort! Toecutter Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 You just remined me Evan. The multi storey car park at the old World Trade Center, (where the old Crown Casino was), has an roofless top level with great skyline veiws. Ha! another to my list. I'm planning to take my tripod to the area and take a few pics with slow exposure on one of these summer sunsets. Quote
zedevan Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 here are the pics of my mates cars...he did all of them himself except the moving one of the corolla and the bmw ones...as you can tell hehe corolla bmw gt4 you should see the pics of his headlights on...so bright (he resells HID's) but yeah getting off topic... the tripod needs to be photoshoped out of the pics huh... Quote
zedevan Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 thought i may as well post them...can you tell i want some? Quote
Toecutter Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 I like the ones of the night shots with the bemma. Thats the sort I was thinking of but your right about tripod shadows etc. It should'nt be too hard to get those shots just a little bit of mucking around to make sure exposure is right. The spot he found seems nicely lit. I'll try and get down there and give it a go soon! Quote
Toecutter Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 Just thought of another spot, a little cliche but still would look good. The old aircraft museum at point cook. You can park you car really close to all the old planes out there to get some really good shots! Quote
Toecutter Posted January 22, 2006 Author Posted January 22, 2006 Well heres my first shot at some Z night photography. I went down to Chadstone shopping centers underground carpark for this pic. Must admit there was a little bit of cheating since I had to play around with PS to "tweak" the pic a bit. I'm gonna try and get down to Docklands later during the week for some city scapes along the docks. I just used my little pocket sized Canon digital camera. I might borrow a camera with a zoom lense for a little more creativity next time. Quote
zedevan Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 that looks nuts! when are you putting your spoilers on? are you able to upload the full res version of the pic to the gallery? i need a new bg! here's my bg for in the mean time - but at 1/4 of the res Quote
Toecutter Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 Hi Evan, The guy that is painting my spoiler (front n back) has just come back from holidays so i'm picking up those bits on Wednesday. I'll send you the full size file but i'm hoping to get some much better shots than that one over the next couple of weeks. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 23, 2006 Administrators Posted January 23, 2006 Hi guys would you be willing to meet up around the 2nd - 3rd 4th or 5th of Feb at night or during the day? Dependant on what sort of shots you guys want. Sandor from the Z Club in Hungary will be down in Melbourne around this time period and I think Mike (Nzeder) will be down here around then also. It also gives us all a bit of time to clean polish and wash our Zeds ready for the shoot . Should I send the usual group email? Quote
warrenz Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Since the 240 is out of action is a 350 allowed ? '' Warren Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 24, 2006 Administrators Posted January 24, 2006 How does everyone feel about Saturday the 4th of February? Quote
Toecutter Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 yer cool i'm in. Warren the 350 would make for some cool new/old look pics! Quote
thehelix112 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I feel that I'll be a Philip Island driving mine. Have fun. Dave Quote
warrenz Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Sorry, I out. I am a Commonwealth Games volunteer and Saturday afternoon is training day. Warren Quote
zedevan Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 yeah i might b there, but my car isn't red so wont fit in i thought i'd give some car park shots a go (same location as my avatar pic but with a tripod) but i got there and realised the tripod had the screw missing to hold the camera on...but once photoshoped they look okish - dont know if its just coz i'm tired but i like the blurs hehe Quote
zedevan Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 what it would look like lowered...hopefully soon Quote
Toecutter Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 Looks alot better lowered Evan. I noticed it would be a good idea to have 2 flashes in that carpark to get a good pic. I took some more around the docks a couple of days ago. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 29, 2006 Administrators Posted January 29, 2006 Ok I know that I should have sent a group email earlier but let's try and make it this saturday. I really like the effect you have achieved with those photos Sulio and I think it would look even better with more Zeds in the background. If we can't get the numbers we will have to push it forward to the week after I guess. Quote
wedgey Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 sorry i would love to make it but a bit of a drive for me from sydney rob Quote
Graedat Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 my car is off the road ATM, unfortunatley, i might still try to make it though. Quote
Toecutter Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 I was thinking we could get a bunch of cars positioned nicely and take a series of shots and then "stitch" them together to get a really cool panaramic skyline shot of the cars with perhaps the city as a back drop. If we aim for next weekend then we could meet up at the docks somewhere and bring along some cold drinks and just hang out there for a while afterwoulds!? Cheers SUlio Quote
zedevan Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 yeah my car needs to be lowered in real life, still looking into it now...i'll write about it in my susspesion thread... more flashes or my dads serious flash would be good, not sure if my digital camera can have an external flash though...i've never looked into it...if anyone wants a good digital camera for the night DickSmith offers 14day money back for any reason i'd like to be able to make it but i'm not sure if there's something else i'm ment to be doing or not :? i was thinking i'd be cool to be a comm games volunteer, good experience, but prob an age limit? ohwell didnt look into it so to late now! Administrators gav240z Posted January 30, 2006 Administrators Posted January 30, 2006 Does anyone know the regulations of CH plates and how to make it an official invite/event? Can we do this or do we need to be an officially registered club? I have a member who needs to travel 3 hours to Melbourne for our photoshoot and requires a formal invitation to do so.. Quote
