mtopxsecret6 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 My 260 has the standard 2+2 5 speed box i believe, what short shift options are there for this box? Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Apart from shortening the length of the shifter, I don't believe there are any short shift kits available. If it was a 71c box, it'd be a different story... Quote
luvemfast Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I've heard of using 620 shifters with redrilling can creat a shorter throw. Anyone? Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 so i would have to cut the length down and re tap a new thread for the gear knob? how do i tell which box i have? is it on the box itself? i looked at a web page that has what box each model has.. though the issue is that mine was a manual conversion.. so im not entirely sure what box it has. A true "short shifter" changes the pivot angle needed to change gears. Cutting the shifter length just gives you a shorter length shifter with the same shift length. Does anyone have a true "short shifter" in there Z? Quote
dalee Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 My zed has a very short stick (see gallery) with the standard box. I have found I actually have to slow down the shift action simply because the box can't keep up. Dad's Super7 has an even shorter stick but you can slam it between cogs no problems, all in the box design. Dale Quote
RBZ 260 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 yeah ultra short and notchy. using r32 box with S14 short shift kit and pivot block changed to s14 maybe 15mm movement to engage to a gear very very short.(s14 stick is 25mm further back, helps the clearance on the tunnel and positions the stick closer to original spot) . bit notchy and like above post sometimes have to change slowly for gearbox to catch up, but can slamm through the gears (feel sorry for the gbox though) Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 my box is a 5 speed, with what i think is the filler plug on the passenger side.. does that make it a 280 box? if so what are the options there? Quote
