Hi Guys,

Car ceased to proceed this morning (datsuns don't break down) the carter electric fuel pump had stopped working and was extremely hot.  About 3/4 later had cooled and worked again. Drove home.

Any ideas what would cause this?  Is just a sign the pump needs to be replaced?

Thanks in advance.

(L28, triple webers, carter pump with fuel return)

Yeah they 'can' be unreliable. Do you have a pre-pump filter fitted?
New ones aren't as good as the old ones, either

If it does it again, look into replacing it with a Pierburg roller cell pump.

I'll check for pre filter, there's one there pretty sure it's down stream though.

It's an older one I reckon  10 + years old.

Ran it for an hour this arvo no problem.  Reckon I'll flush it out and see if any crap comes out.

I'll check that pump , thanks for the recommendation.

Hi there,  I see you used a pierburg pump on a customer's car. Have you run it yet, any comments re noise? I'll end up using the new  pierburg as a lift pump in fuel injection set-up. So a  quiet pump would be ideal. The current carter is pretty loud.

It's still noisy, but it is quieter then the Carter.
It does depend on how well you insulate their mounting though...

I have a Pierburg and once the car is running its not noticeable. Just make sure to mount it on some good quality anti vibration mounts and it will be fine.
