i have a r200 longnose open 3.54 ratio - Just pulled out of my 260z auto. Good condition, no noise. Have never had a probelm have always run it with slick 50.

$150.

Selling because doing RB motor so higher ratio needed.

pair of Rear Discs and calipers with pads (pads look pretty worn) off 280zx

$100.

Discs would probably need machining/sanding.

These were off a low k 280zx.

if the rb is going to be turbo i would stick with the 3.54,

i have an rb30et in my 240z and find that the low weight of the car wasn't able to load up the 4.11's enough to make much boost in first, was much quicker taking off in second but that kinda defeats the purpose of a 5 speed :-\

i am running an MX7 box

RB20. R32 GTS does not weight much more that a RB 260z. It runs a 4.4. Remember the RB20 revs to 7400 stock and is laggy, lacks torque. It needs the gearing to get up and going. I will be running RB20 g/bix. RB25/30 are a different story, much more torque, less revs.

If you think i have been ill-informed then please tell me now!

Higher the number = lower the ratio.

A 3.54 is a 'tall' ratio which will give a higher top speed for given revs.

A 4.4 is a 'short' or 'low' ratio which will give you faster acceleration for given revs.

Though I'm guessing you already knew that?

ah RB20 down on torque compared to 3.0l cousin

so it's not going to be turbod either??

seeing as you are going to so much trouble why not fit an rb25 or rb30,for the few extra dollars(potentially, although rb25NA are pretty cheap now) you will get significantly more performance and a better street motor in my opinion

just curious not critical ;)

I like old school turbo motors and smaller capacity motors. The RB20 turbo motor revs more freely - like i said earlier to 7400 stock. I prefer this to the more modern RB25 which is out of puff at lower rpm and comparatively smoothed power curve. Low down torque is not something i am really interested in. Top end power rush is more fun and the RB20 will still run put out more power than you need without much work. And torque kills an RB20 gearbox at 200kw atw, and if you went RB25 this number (and some) is where you would want to be to.  Then you have to worry about the bigger RB25 gearbox and more modding/cutting. I really don't want to cut up a classic even if it is under the transmission tunnel.

Pedro,

i run 4.4 Lsd in my 260z with Rb20det with VG30det turbo.

like you i also preffer the revs and top end rush than the slugishness of the Rb25 motor.

though i do believe that 4.4 is prob bit too short. max boost in first is around 0.8bar (while its preset to 1bar) 2nd and 3rd are fairly good but gearchanges are frequent.

i think 4.1 or 3.9 would be great in a 2+2.

having the bigger turbo which in terms will create more lag but in my case turbo picks up at around 3k and pulls very hard till 6700. after that car seems to run out of speed and another gear change is needed.

for highway driving it sits around 3000 in 5th. right on boost. so to overtake no gear change needed just mash the foot down and before you know it you hitting 180+. but this does come at a cost of fuel.

at the moment im leaving it as it is till i visit the drag strip. as the acceleration off the line wipes the wrx by a half a car.rolling start from 80 will be quicker than the new mighty gen4 commonwhore with few changes on it.

not sure what the prices for rb20det vs rb25det but when i did mine it was 3 times more expensive. and im sure my rb20det will keep up with rb25det.

other option is to fit rb25 internals to a rb20 making it rb23. you still have the rb20 response with bit more tourque. this will be my next step if i need more power. at the moment its FUN.  ;D

thanks for the advice. I really went with the R32 GTS gearing being on the money given that nissan usually get it pretty right. But sounds like a 4.1 or 3.9 would be better. Regardless, 3.54 will not cut it as far as i am concerned.

I have a 2 seater 260z not a 2+2 but i would not imagine this would make much difference.

You have been misinformed about fitting an RB25 box, it fits perfect, is a lot stronger than an RB25 oh and my RB25 redlines at 7500rpm...  It took bugger all to fit, have a look at my build up thread, there are pics of how it was mounted.

I like RB20s, but if you want a real high rpm rush, try 250rwkw from an RB25, its fucking insane fun :D
