Monday night is a great night its 8 Ball night and I play for a team in Nightcliff. Last night cruising down Stuart Highway with the windows down, music on, and my 260 at a steady 80 km into a magnificent sunset what more could you ask for! The 260 is a great place to think!

May be I would ask for a rear facing laser which would eliminate all traces of those more mundane users of the road that persist in tailgating me, and then swinging out to speed past at the last possible moment, proving what? Then on the way home I have another narrow miss which would have T Boned the car.

Do I feel the same need for speed, well definitely not on a Monday night, what never ceases to amaze me is the reaction that my car has on the drivers of that classic The Australian Ute (WOW)! Stuart Highway here in the NT is a curious beast which changes constantly throughout the day, some mornings can be easy (its twenty minutes to work for me) others can be very aggressive perhaps that’s linked to pay day.

What has always been a Taboo subject for me is drinking and driving, and having arrived here from the UK last year I am utterly amazed by the amount of drinking and driving that’s occurs here in the NT!

On a more sober note the Highway has a fatality tally board which now stands for this year at 37, I often wonder who has the job of changing it and what he thinks, the recent 2 additions I believe have been two young girls.

So what’s my point am I ranting about aggressive UTE drivers and drink driving or thinking about buying a rear mounted facing laser?  No my point is that, I have a great car, its relaxed and fun to drive and when you need to put your foot down it responds exactly how a car should. Don’t get me wrong I have always been a petrol head, had some great cars and love to drive fast. I see that Jeremy Clarkson has had his hands on the latest V8 from Holden although I have not yet seen the episode; maybe he should introduce it next to the board above!

Yeh, the Stuart was shocking.  We used to get idiots trying to over take our entire convoy of armoured vehicles on the way to exercises, we were 100 metres apart...

Anyways, I miss driving my Zed :(  Not long now :D

In my 300ZX I used to get blokes in XR8's, XR6's and BOMBADORES trying to overtake me. They would either get to the back wheels and I would drop it back a cog and loose them.

or

Let them overtake think they had a victory. Then blow the paint off there doors on the way past, after they got a few corners ahead.

Can't wait till my new 240Z is on the road. ;D

On another subject got some great advice and tips from Hunter today which confirms what a great forum this is! ;) Spooky that I was offered a very tatty 300 zx last night outside of the club that I play in, not too sure if it ran on beer or petrol fumes from the guy that offered me it! Anyway thank you Hunter!

With clever marketing the Aussie Ute has now become the only Australian "sports car" available to the masses of neanderthals who's perception of a sports car is something that has two doors and a V8 under their hoof.......Both Holden and Ford shoe horn bigger and bigger V8s under the hood and add "styling aids" to hide the fact that the true purpose of a Ute (Utility vehicle) is for carrying crap around.

Point of fact ....we are the only motor vehicle market in the world that insists in putting engine output (eg. 307 KW) on their cars......some form of pi$$ing contest between Holden and Ford....which appeals to the cretinous demographic who purchase these things.

As for the NT ..........unfortunately you are disproportionately "blessed" with a greater number of Ute driving beer swilling neanderthals than any state in the nation.

Sorry that was very cathartic

My apologies to any beer swilling Ute driving neanderthals who may feel culturally, racially or demographically vilified in any way ;D

Hunter!  I think i'll leave this one alone....fair to say though that it takes ALL kinds of people to do ALL manner of things to help us appreciate what it means to be among the more mature and refined owners of the most classic sports car on the Australian road....THE ZED!

Maybe a Zed ute to really confuse us? Dont forget to add the bullbar, truck mudflaps, 300ft cb antenna, sidemarker lamps along the side steps,  boss hog type horns and the all imoprtant "runs on rum" sticker. J/K!

I have toyed with the idea of dropping a Z shell onto a 720 4WD chassis and converting the rear area into a ute tray, removing the hatch, enclosing the cabin from the top of the hatch opening down and having enough room in the back to fit an esky or two ;D

I have an old rusty shell at home. I may attack it with the grinder just to see how it will look LOL
