Hingle Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Hi guys, Currently looking to pickup a project 240z/260z/280z, no particular condition. Was just curious how much should I be expecting in terms of a project car not running, good bones, no to minimal rust? Thanks for the help, Zac Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 21, 2020 Administrators Posted September 21, 2020 The floor at the moment for such a car is $30k (a 260z the other day sold instantly at $35k). Probably more if it's a 240z, a bit less if a 260z. The real problem is that lately there hasn't been much to choose from. Very limited stock appearing. There is a brown car in QLD that looks like a good starting point. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 21, 2020 Administrators Posted September 21, 2020 The other problem is I see 3-4 wanted ads on Gumtree right now. Here is the Brown 240z. The colour may put some off, but I always buy based on condition / originality. If the colour really bothers you, it can always be changed. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/chermside/cars-vans-utes/1973-datsun-240z-sports-5-speed-manual-coupe/1256153334 Quote
gilltech Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 (edited) As Gav240z says. Asking prices for Zeds in any condition are steadily climbing due to increased demand and a very limited supply. Watch and assess the market and you will get a feel for how much you will likely have to pay whether a 'barn find' project car or a running/registered car. Not easy though currently as there aren't many for sale. Demand is such that even very rusty cars that a decade or two ago would have been stripped for parts and the remainder abandoned or sent to the crusher are being repaired. Which is a massive job in itself, especially with the limited amount of aftermarket support by way of replacement panels and body shell sections. If you see a car advertised that interests you then you best get on to it ASAP or it will be soon gone if the asking price is sensible. Good luck. Edited September 21, 2020 by gilltech Quote
