mossy Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I've just gotten my 240z front struts out and cut the perches off for sectioning, I thought I'd try to slide one of my Ground Control sleeves over the strut to see if it fit but it doesn't. It fit over the left strut but not the right, the right seems to be a larger diameter? Quote
zr240 Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Do you mean the right strut itself is bigger diam? I think the 260z struts were bigger diam?? Manybe it was changed? Ash Quote
Scoota G Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Sounds like you have an un-original strut. Some shops when a car has been repaired don't give two Hoots about getting the right part... The right part for these guys is the one that fits. I had a similar problem with the brakes on mine. Quote
mossy Posted June 22, 2008 Author Posted June 22, 2008 Yep the outer diameter of the strut housing seems to be bigger so maybe you guys are right it may be a late 260z housing, I'll give a couple of z shops a call to see how much a housing is. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 22, 2008 Moderators Posted June 22, 2008 From memory the original 240 struts are 51mm in diameter or 2" and the 260Z struts are 54-55mm? Sorry, its been a while since I did all this hunting around for struts! Quote
sco_aus Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I had the exact same thing happen. They sell them as a generic type thing and therefore it things dont quite go together. I didnt know anything about it, so I just gave it to my suspension dude who sorted it for me. But for anyone that decides to do coilovers, TALK TO YOUR LOCAL SUSPENSION PEOPLE FIRST!!!!!! They can usually source stuff locally for a lot cheaper and just as good. If you are also doing the rear, I have 2x 240Z rear struts that already have sleeves installed on perches etc for cheap as I want to get rid of them. They arent Ground control ones, but they are just as good. Let me know if you are interested anyways. Quote

sco_aus Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Ok, these 240Z rear struts were temporarily on the car when I was waiting for my custom Bilstein shocks to be made for my 260Z struts. They do not come with springs, drum brakes, shocks or top hats/mounting points at top. (Can supply alloy finned drum covers in pic for bugger all extra). This pic is of them installed, worked fine, no problems. Rear Closeup Will take standard shocks, however, if you lower the car, it will require shorter shocks. I'll double check that I have still have the 240Z stub axles, though I think I sold them a while ago. (Easy enough to swap yours in and a good opportunity to do bearings at same time). Asking $200 ono + postage, $30 extra for alloy finned covers too. Quote
