Scoota G Posted May 30, 2008 Author Posted May 30, 2008 K I need a picture with an arrow telling me which jet/holder i am going to modify. Me so confused. :-\ Quote
Toecutter Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Unfortunately you cannot make any compromises, they all need to be matched. Personally I would try to find another non emission style. WarrenZ has a couple of spares he might be selling!? Sulio check this thread: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2091.0.html Quote
modular9 Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Plug and play! Put them in and the blasted dellos were running about 79% better. The other 21 % was due to a problem existing with the part between the steering wheel and the chair. Quote
Scoota G Posted May 31, 2008 Author Posted May 31, 2008 Yea they call that the Organic component or the spacer. I got some tiny grub screws and drilled them to 1.0mm and it is running a lot better. Thanks again guys for all your input Quote

Toecutter Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Wow they sound great. How ado the plugs look? Sulio Quote
modular9 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 twas the hee hee at the end that did it for me! Quote
Scoota G Posted June 1, 2008 Author Posted June 1, 2008 The plugs are a bit black. I want to take the main jets down to 130'S. I put the Decibiel Meter next to the Carbs and they sing up to 120Db .... Ouch Quote
Scoota G Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 Just wondering what you guys did about the Choke cables as Three into 2 does not go. I'm thinkin about putting a third cable onto the Choke handle. Quote
mick74 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I don't use the choke, a couple of pump of the accelerator usually gets the car started. Then massage the accelerator for 1/2 a minute to warmup then she is right to idle on her own. Quote
modular9 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Am using a single choke cable mounted between the rear defroster and the switch to the right ( thermo fan ) goes out where the normal choke cable was and then bends around the engine to the front carb and then passes through all the chokes. Center console getting some fibreglass treatement to get rid of the original choke slot. Didnt use it much. And used to use mick74's method after a while. Quote
tbscobraZ Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Im a bit young but does anyone else reckon that those carbs sounded like super mario on the video. Polophonic power I like very much lol. Quote

Polophonic power I like very much lol. Pretty funny it does have a funky sound, that's more the camera than the car and the combination of poor audio quality after compression on youtube . In person I'm sure it sounds great. Quote
Scoota G Posted June 15, 2008 Author Posted June 15, 2008 Part II So i obtained all the parts to match the carbs up except for the Emulsion tubes which i need to find a set of 7772.8 (2 0f). The jets are still 145 but i have a set of 130's on the way (which would have been here on friday if it wasn't for the postal strike) The idle jet screws are set to 3 and a half turns out and it has good idle progression but is running too rich but with very good top end. I can't wait for the new jets but a funny thing is that when i make a hrd right in the car and then stop the car it stalls every time. i figure that the float levels need to be reset but would be interested to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem. Also Sulio i have those butterfly washers for you if you want me to send them let me know or i can give them to you at the next meeting. Quote
Toecutter Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 hmmm... i have no issues re stalling! yer bring em along to the next meet! thanks Scoota Sulio Quote
Scoota G Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Dellorto Update. I mentioned in another thread that i was having some issues with a flat spot. This occured between 2000rpm and 3000rpm and was making the car difficult to drive. I assumed (wrongly) that i was getting to much petrol higher in the rev range so i changed the Main Jets from 145 to 130. This improved the flat spot a tiny bit but now the carbs backfired and fuel economy was still around the same, so i ordered a set of 46 Idle jets taking them down from 52's. These arrived the other day and after fitting them i found that the idle was not spluttering as much and it was a lot easier to tune. As the Des Hammill book says "if you have to turn the idle screws in to less than 2.5 turns then the idle jets are too big and if you have to turn them out any more than 5.5 turns than they are too small". The big improvment was in the fuel economy but the backfiring issue still remained. So i then changed the Main Jets back to the 145's and hey presto, problem solved with no noticable change in fuel consumption. I have noticed that if the car backfires at the carbs the Mixture is too lean and if it pops through the exhaust the mixture is too rich. It still has the smallest of flat spots but i feel confident that i can tune it out with mixture adjustment. Tuning them in this way has required me to use the choke on start up as before i didn't need to as it already had a rich enough mixture to start from cold but when she warmed up it was miles too Rich. For a novice with carbs it can be frustrating to hear people cruising through tuning these setups where others (like me) seem to have a battle from day 1 but then again i don't know how many people are running a similar setup to mine as in Exhaust, Cylinder head, Compression Ignition and Transmission as all these can require a individual tuning method (as in parts). I have only really written down my experiences in the hope that it may help someone who is having issues but in the end the battle was worth it and very rewarding. Quote
