I extended my exhaust 6 inches from the rear of the body which is 3 inches past the rear of the bumper bar & the exhaust fumes are 95% gone. I hope that helps someone else.... Jimbo....

does it look shit being so far out or not...

the main reason fumes get sucked in because of the aero of the car and it just brings the fumes back into the car, so obviously having it far out pushing it out of the sucking area and goes behind the car

I think the reason is when the boot seals or tail light seals are buggered and then with the aero of the car you get the fumes.

My boot & tail light seals were ok, but when I had the windows down you could smell the fumes being sucked in. No I dont think the extension looks shit, it only protrudes 3 inches past the outer lip of the rear bumper, its not that much really. It also keeps the rear of the car & the bumper cleaner from soot ect,I will try to post a photo if I can...Jimbo....

there might be an issue with the roadworthyness of the car. I think there is a clause in regards to how far the exhaust can stick out of the rear of the car, not 100% sure though. Anyone know?

Dont know what the Law states, but a tow bar sticks out a lot further than what my exhaust tip does...Jimbo...

you got me thinking  , so i did a bit of a search. I love google.

Modified and alternative exhaust systems are permitted if they satisfy the following requirements:

The exhaust outlet must extend at least 40 mm beyond the furthermost outboard or rearmost joint of the floor pan which is not continuously welded or permanently sealed which could permit direct access of exhaust gases to the passenger compartment, but must not protrude beyond the perimeter of the vehicle when viewed in plan.

It is a post from myholden.com but the same laws apply. Don't know if the link works but give it a go. It lists a whole lot of regulations. It might help some of those rebuilding their cars :D .

to be ownest, the exhaust would have to be sticking out rediculusly for a cop to book you for that, and even for a cop to know and remember that law, i wouldn't be to worried about that... even a TMU would have to be really pissed of or really going over your car to book ya for something like that...

just in my experiances with police, they look for the more simplier and common things to book you for

Good work Jimbo. I've heard this fix by some of the US guys with good success and like you said people drive around with huge towbars and don't get hassled so why would you.

I found a significant improvemnt after the addition of a "dump pipe" on the tip. My exhaust is 2.5" with a tip a little bigger than that that points down. Very neat and looks quite tough at the same time.

Cheers
