Riceburner Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 While driving today the indicator switch will only stay on if it's held down when turning right. It stays on and no issues when indicating left. Any ideas? Quote
theremm Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I'm having the same problem!!!!! So annoying. Has been like this for about 2 years now. I completely disassembled the indicator assembly last year and lightly sanded back the contact surfaces - the surface for the right turn signal contact was really black and dirty.. the left turn signal contact was very clean however. After cleaning up the contacts the indicator worked perfectly for a couple months. However now it has started working selectively again... it seems like there is too much electrical current or something which is causing a carbon buildup on the right turn signal contact? If that is even a thing... that is the only explanation I can think of anyway. I'm over it now and to be honest have been thinking about just buying a new indicator stalk!!! Interesting to see someone else is having the same problem and hoping you can find a solution. Quote
theremm Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I should also add: when I start driving, my right turn switch normally works fine (well, most of the time). It is usually after driving for a while that the right turn signal becomes unreliable.. maybe after a lot of use it starts to heat up or something like that? Sometimes then it just wont work at all for the rest of the day. Quote
Riceburner Posted April 8, 2017 Author Posted April 8, 2017 Seems they're all getting a little tired, lots of reports of electrical faults with the switches and contacts. I'm thinking mine could be a spring problem, electrically it works fine it's just that it self returns if you let it go. Was fine last time I drove to the Xmas BBQ. I was thinking the same, buy another and refurb it before installing. Quote
Riceburner Posted April 8, 2017 Author Posted April 8, 2017 Could yours be a dry joint on one of the solder joints generating heat until it distorts enough that no current gets through? Quote
theremm Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Quite possibly?? Good suggestion and I had never considered that. I can do just about everything on the car but auto electrics is always one area that's gets me. I have redone a couple of the solders which were average but my soldering isn't the best anyway...I will have to take the switch apart and look at it again. I never have problems with the switch self returning however when it is working fine, so I'm not quite sure what your solution is sorry! Quote
andyk_79 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I was going to put a spot of solder on the contact points on the switch rocker and file it to match factory shape on mine, but ended up not needing to do anything to the switch. Might be that switch is not holding because the profile on these is so worn ? Quote
Agno Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I have had the same issues twice now and it's just because the switches are old and worn out. I cleaned out the old grease, put new grease in and cleaned the contacts as best I could both times and each time it might last 6-12 months before flogging out again. Quote
