Lincoln 180C Welder

I'm after a Lincoln 180c welder, I'm thinking a used one would be great as they are around the 400-550 range which is what I'm looking at spending.

Thought someone might be selling one as allot of you guys are using this welder. I'm in Victoria and I'd travel around the state for one at the right price!

Hey Andrew

For that price why not look at buying a new CIG weldskill 150amp. It will weld upto 5mm and perfect for little home jobs. Some guys will never sell a welder as its something that just sits in the corner but without it you are stuffed.

Yeah, I've been looking at them it's just about 3 weeks ago there were about 3 on gumtree in Victoria around that price! but of course, as soon as I have the money they're all gone. I might wait another few weeks to see if one pops up.

I'm actually starting to think about getting into TIG welding and I've noticed that a few welders have the ability to do both, are these worth it or are they one of those things that you're better off getting seperate units?

I personally have seperate units as you wont get 100% out of a multi function unit. Some units have the ability to do Arc/Mig/tig but wont include any tig gear (extra $200+). I have n Arc/DC tig inverter and it works well. But a few things to ask yourself

- What do you want to weld? Only car panels?

- What other projects are you going to want it for?

- Are you willing to buy gas ? Argon is more expensive!

- Have you TIG welded before?

 

Tig is perfect for thin metal as its a very fine contolled Arc causeing less heat distortion and less spatter and mess! But your gap between sheets can almost be non existent as you will just burn through if its to big and it can be difficult to fill a hole with a tig. Tig hates rust you must have a really clean surface. If you havent Tig welded before it can be painfull, getting the tungsten stuck, not having a steady hand, not being able to feed wire fast/slow enough can make things very messy.
