Dionysus
Hi My oil cap appears to be leaking and since replacing an oil cap will cost $50+ I thought I would investigate whether there is a replacement O-ring that I can fit instead.. I removed the O-ring which appears to be hard plastic square with a step in it 32mm ID, 44mm OD and 5mm thick.. It's seen better days as it's chipped and dented.Worst case scenario I was considering trying to fit a standard O ring or possibly make something out of a gasket sheet. Anyone else resolved this issue in the past? ThanksJohn
Moderators PB260Z Posted February 23, 2016 Moderators Share Posted February 23, 2016 Hi, I would probably just look for a replacement cap with a decent O-ring from a parted out car. Maybe try - a wanted post - calling, Stewie Wilkins, James Flett or Warren at All-Z-Parts Cheers PB
Dionysus
Thanks PB I also just found a 300zx oil cap o-ring and the measurements are very similar and might fit..I may try it and see how it goes first since it will only set me back about $15. PeterH
Do you want some good news??? I just had rang my local nissan dealer and part no, 15270-78500, packing - oil filler cap, is in stock in aus. I was quoted " about $6.50 " and most likely over night to Tamworth. The complete cap is still available ex Japan. Good luck
Dionysus
That's great to hear.. So you called Nissan Parts Tamworth??I tried my closest Nissan Parts shop and the said it was not available..I Do you want some good news??? PeterH
Did you quote that part number? The parts guy here gave a disc with the old parts list. I think he got sick of me bothering him. He looks after me price wise but when I gave him the number he put it in the system and said " yep that's still good". Dionysus

Have tried twice for common parts and each time the answer "No Longer Available"
PeterH
The guys here have been good ...but have come to dead end with a lot of NLA parts..... drivers door mirror ....gear knob.... etc etc.... but they did find a new flywheel and a timing cover. Warren has been good at Hornsby..... as well as other suppliers
Moderators PB260Z Posted February 23, 2016 Moderators Share Posted February 23, 2016 Yeah, I have found Warren to be very helpful and he is only 5 mins from my place. Stewie Wilkins has also been a great source of not only parts but also advice.
Dionysus
So I was referring to Klosters Parts Wickham who put the order it and was happy to post it out.. Thanks!
dat2kman
Never ever tell them what the car s first. Tell them the part number, then afterwards, tell them its for a very very old Datsun, that Nissan used to make, probably long before the parts counter person was a twinkle in their father's eye,,,,
HKSZ
haha when asking for door handle i always said its for a Datsun 1600, not a 240Z. Just take the O ring into a local bearing shop, nothing special about it probably cost 50c
PeterH
Hi John...how did you go with the oil cap seal?
Dionysus
Hey mate, they couldn't find the stock on the shelves but said they could get it sent from SA. I don't mind the wait so they said it should be shipped out today and receive it later on in the week. Will report back in when I get it. PeterH
OK I bought 2 from the dealer here...thought I should get one while I can.... here in two days. Dionysus
Just a follow up.. The seal fits perfect and is rubber where as the old seal was a hard plastic.. Thanks for the help!
Moderators PB260Z Posted March 8, 2016 Moderators Share Posted March 8, 2016 Great news, and way cheaper than buying a complete cap. Happy Days
