The price is $280 for a one-off, or $240 each if two are made. I don't know if three or more would be any cheaper so figure on $240. Pick-up Sydney. A glass window is 6.5 kg and a perspex one in 4.5kg (approx using my bathroom scales) Any interest? PeterAllen Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 I tried to fit a perspex window by simply cutting a sheet of perspex to size and then holding down the corners to give a curved shape. That was easy enough to do but a large portion of the window still had a flat appearance and looked crap. These windows will have the same compound curves as an OEM window. Quote

PeterAllen Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Alex, a good point. I can't be sure of the OEM thickness as I'm not going to be using an OEM seal. It was the thickness of the door glass and I've just followed on from that. Can someone help us out by measuring the OEM rear glass thickness? The glass being used as the mould (thanks George) is with the moulder? Quote
Brabham Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Hi Peter, just measured one I made up for the rear screen of a van and it was only 3mm to fit the OEM rubber (however glass may have been slightly thicker) so will be surprised if Datsun used 6mm - however hopefully someone can chime in with the official Datsun thickness. Looks like the GTO will be bulletproof from the rear! I assume you are using Lexan and not acrylic, although shouldn't matter too much for a rear screen. Cheers Alex Quote

Alex, a lot of race cars with thinner sheet run one or two straps over the window to stop it blowing out. I don't want to do that and that's part of the reason I've gone for 6mm. Hi Peter, .... PeterAllen Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 There has been some interest in Perspex windows at 4mm thickness and I've spoken to the moulder who stated there is no problem making them at 4mm. The compound curve shape will also add rigidity and by my rough calcs the 4mm thickness will bring the weight down to 3kg. Whittie Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I have the same, with a tint embedded in the plastic and it looks great. You really need the curve to avoid the awful 'race car' look. It's been on the track at over 200kph many times and no issues at all with it staying in the rubber (OEM rubber) and has a good seal, nice and tight, no leaks. Quote

PZG302 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) I went with 1.8mm thick and flat, because race car No strap either, just a dozen tech screws into the hatch held it all good, including over 200km/h at EC down the straight and an estimated 210km/h at Lakeside and QR. 260DET Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Just be careful if getting a tint because the steep angle of the perspex makes it darker when looking through the interior rear view mirror. So a light tint is suggested. Quote
