Classicman Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 You're probably going to think I'm nuts, but here goes: After flipping my first Zed ('71) early last year and doing the nut and bolt on the '73 Zim car, I feel that I have earned a bit of insight into the Zeds. I really want a minter to put into my collection, hence the amount of work that went into the '73. The car is shipping next week and I can't wait to get her here and drive her. BUT, I fear that this will not be the keeper for me in the end. There is something about the early car with the vents in the deck and the different interior that just resonates with me. I would really like to find an early car, restore and put it away to enjoy and pass on to my kids one day. This after I bought another '73 today... gulp. Anyway, if there is anyone out there giving up on a project or deciding to move onto something else, please consider contacting me. It will go to a good home and be returned to its former glory. The Zeds have officially gotten under my skin! Quote

The Zeds have officially gotten under my skin! Yep, you're officially nuts. Welcome home. . If anyone understands "something about the early cars with vents in the rear hatch" it's me. But perhaps drive your newly restored car first? There will be plenty of bugs to iron out... I'm sure you'll appreciate this though, I was out and about today and visited Ashley at Moorabbin Auto Spares. On the way home an R35 GTR was following me, checking out the S30z. The GTR looked like a big fridge (it was white with very straight lines) compared to the S30z I do miss driving my 72 240z, definitely the kind of car that grabs attention from all age groups. Quote

I think part of my probelm is that I somehow enjoy the build more than the car sometimes lol Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 8, 2016 Administrators Posted January 8, 2016 Yeah Gav, I aim to drive my current car first, this is a medium to long term plan. I think part of my probelm is that I somehow enjoy the build more than the car sometimes lol The build is exciting because of all the possibilities and decisions to make and how it will impact the overall product. Myself personally I'm interested in the early cars and a lot of the early accessories. As an era of car design I think the 60s had the most interesting organic lines, the early S30z's represent the end of that golden era for me. Before everything started to become plastic. Before strict emission controls and safety features which tainted performance and design aesthetics. Anyway if you want an early build 240z it's going to be tough, you've seen the early girl bingo thread and we now have a better idea of what's left. Most of it is projects that looks a few years from completion at best. HS30 cars up to build #500 had the vents in the rear, so it was only 1970 year cars that had the vents in the hatch. It can't hurt to put feelers out there but as you know it's often who you know that results in getting priority option to buy when such cars come up for sale. You could argue that I was passively searching for ~15 years before I found #150. In that time I've seen only a handful of cars for sale with a lower build number. (Maybe more than 5 less than 10). So when one comes up you just gotta take the plunge. That's what I did. No regrets. Quote
Classicman Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 Thanks Gavin. I know it s a long shot and will take time, thats why I decided to put the feelers out now. I will enjoy my '73 until such time as I find the right early numbers car and can restore it. I'm fortunate in that respect. #16 in Brisbane, does anyone know who owns he car and if all the bits are with it? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 9, 2016 Administrators Posted January 9, 2016 From the rumblings on this forum I believe #16 is far from original these days and powered by an RB26 used as a track car. A couple of members on here previously owned the car when it was in NZ. Quote
Classicman Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 Sorry, got the number wrong, it was #12 in Brisbane, the stripped out shell. Quote
