phillay Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 (edited) Hi guys need to borrow a set of wheels for engineering, I tried on a set of 14s but it wouldn't clear the brakes (hilux). tried on a set of 15s (super heavies?) but they wouldn't clear the brakes. cash for inconvenience offered, will need it for a week (at most) thanks, Phil Edited July 13, 2021 by phillay Quote
dat240z Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 What wheels are you planning on using when your car passed through engineering? Why not engineer with the set youll be using? or youre waiting for them to arrive/purchase?? Quote
KatoKid Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Im in the same boat Phil....engineers wont like my 16x8's so will have to borrow some smaller rims for a while Quote
dat240z Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Why wont the engineers like 16x8s?? Too wide a track or something? My car was engineered with 17x7.5 235/45/17? Now running 16x8 215/45/17... same same really... Quote
phillay Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 there's currently 17x8 rotas rb on the car, wasn't expecting the engineer to say no, i thought the whole point of an engineer to is make sure the mods on the car are safe but meh. Just want to get the car to pass at the moment so we can buy the right style wheels. I don't understand how an RB26 gets engineered and a set of 17s can't... Kato - what wheels do you think will work? I told my mechanic to use my 16s wats but he said they were too wide so unless we go 5 studs we can't use the wider wats or the 17s.. Quote

Thats odd Phillay, my old rims were the 17x7.5 in rota with 235's. Its not the size which matters, it should come down to the track and wheelbase... Thats the whole point of engineering and perhaps you could get a copy of the regulations and or a second opinion... Unless you using a 255 or something I wouldnt have thought itd be an issue.. From memory, my engineer said the 235s were withing 20mm of the maximum allowed track. Maybe ask if you get some smaller tyres? ie 205/215?? Quote
phillay Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 wheel track needs to be within 25mm of original and diameter must be within 15mm of original, otherwise have to change to 5 stud for bigger wheels Quote
phillay Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 unless i can prove that they came with different options from factory Quote

phillay Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 I don't know who the engineer is, we've engaged them through our mechanic. Who was your engineer? Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I've got some Rota Rb 17/7.5 +4 if that helps? Quote
dat240z Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I've got some Rota Rb 17/7.5 +4 if that helps? And I can vouch theyre engineerable as these were on my car when I had the 240z engineered!! Andrew_L26 1 Quote

(did you have your diff changed?) Edited November 13, 2015 by phillay Quote
