bluerat Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 G'day Guy's, I'm chasing a 18mm rear sway bar to suit a 240z and the little 'hinge' bits that hold it into the bracket. If you have one lying around please give me a shout, Cheers Hodgo Quote
Scoota G Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 The picture below is of a 260Z 2 Seater item with a 2+2 rear bar on top of it. As you can see they are the same. I believe them to be the same as a 240Z. I can compare it to a friends but i'm sure i have been down this path before. I even have the hinge bushes but i don't have spare brackets. I do however have the ones off my 2 Seater which i can make a template of. Let me know if this suits your needs. Quote
dat2kman Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 The 240z bar is different, going by the rear in in the 240 I have here, and comparing to the 260 2seater. The "hinge" mounts a located onto floorpan in different positions. HTH! Quote
PeterH Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 This is interesting..... been thinking of trying a rear bar when I get the car finished...mine is 1973 240Z and although they didn't come with a rear bar I was surprised to see the mounting brackets there.... dat2kman...can you tell us a bit more about the differences between the 240 and the 260? The RHD parts catalogue shows the following for a rear bar and it doesn't differentiate between 240, 260 and 2+2 55511-E8100 up to 07-13 55611-E8100 08-73 to 08-74 55611-N3701 09-74 on A rear bar came with a collection of parts when I bought the car but I'm sure it came from a 2+2 ...the bar I have is 20 mm dia. I'm not sure if they need a rear bar or would even benefit from it Quote
dat2kman Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 3 Bars! Eh, geez,,, Hodgo wants one to get his fat arse out a bit, you can "balance" it a bit by using Nyloc nuts on the drop links, but leave the Nylocs very loose, so the car " flops" over before bar takes effect and then induces oversteer. Having the nuts tight, bar is effective immediately. I just tried fitting "a260z" 2 seater bar into a early 240z, no go, no-where near it. Better results to be gained in getting front vs rear spring rates correct, to reduce fore/aft pitching, but go stiffer in springs to act as "anti-roll" lateraly, rather than tie each side up, and lose our Independant type suspension. 20 cents worth. PeterH Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Thanks for going to all that effort..... you saved me a bit work...... I would have put the car on the road standard before I tried to mess with things... seen too many people start at the wrong place and make things worse before they start....when I bought my present 240Z it was an auto...the person I bought it from had everything to convert to manual and a wholelot more ..I got the lot.... so now I have sway bars.....R200 diff etc that I don't really want....you can never have too many spare parts!!! Good luck to bluerat finding his bar..for what it matters the front bar on my car is 19mm and the front and rear 2+2 bars are 20 mm. Quote
bluerat Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Thanks guy's I've just upped the spring rates a heap, so maybe I'll try it with out a bar to see how it goes. I can get one made, but they are pretty expensive, I just thought maybe someone had one laying about unused? Cheers Hodgo Quote
