Riceburner Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 A question for the guru's.. I bought a new Nissan V912 cylinder head today. It's going on my brothers 1600 with an L20b engine. The engine will be rebuilt as a road driver with twin 40mm mikunis and a 72deg cam. The inlet and exhaust ports are quite roughly cast, do we port it out or just do a little clean up of rough edges? Thanks, Gareth. Quote
dat2kman Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 With valve guides removed, will a 40mm diam ball roll down through the ports? That'd be the aim! And yes, check gasket against intake mani, and port to that. What did it CC to? Quote
Riceburner Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 Thanks Jas. The previous owner said it had 37cc chambers (we have dished pistons). Inlet ports look to be about 36mm, with plenty of rough bits. It'll only get taken to 6,500rpm max and most of the time it'll live under 5,500rpm. It'll be a daily driven car. I have some spare L28 valves, are they suitable? Quote
dat2kman Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Chambers look kinda squishy! Bottom end together? F not throw some flattoes at it, no need for overbore, that will just raise comp higher. It'll rev to 7! The four cyls have better balance than the soxes. If the l28 44 mm valves fit, and tip heights are ok with cam lobe to rocker wipe, they should be fine. What did they say the V912 head was fitted to, stock? Quote
Riceburner Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 Yeah they do look small! We'll do some measuring on the valves and go from there. He said it was similar to the SSS heads. Thanks. Quote
600Z Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 The SSS head V219 and the later version V912 should have 1.5" intake ports. 1.65" intake and 1.38" exhaust valves and yes 280zx 44mm intake and 35mm exhaust valves work well in them. It should be about 41cc chamber volume too. I had one years ago on a 2.1L years ago and it worked very well though I did do a lot of chamber work to it and porting on the exhaust. Quote
