Some help with my 2000 Sports please?

Can drive it for well over 30 minutes no worries but when driving it longer, typically at higher speeds on the open road when I stop it drops a heap of water out of the overflow. With the motor running I fill it back up again and it will do the same again (typically). Last time it was OK and made it home fine.

It runs a radiator with a non pressure cap and a separate reservoir tank with the pressure cap. I always fill both to the top.

I have been told once that you should not fill the reservoir tank and maybe this is where my issue is. I have replaced the thermostat just to be sure it was not partially opening so this cannot be it.

You may wonder what the temperature gauge is saying, well nothing as it does not work. That is my next question, any good ideas for a separate temperature gauge? The Sports runs a voltage regulator that has taken out my temperature and fuel gauge...still some work to do there.

Fill both up, run it till hot, the reserve tank will overflow, due to expansion, to a point, then stop, then it should be right from then on, at that level.

On cooling down, it will suck the reserve to about 1/3-1/2 level from bottom.

If you are running straight water, throw in some cooling system cleaner/flusher, run it, till good and hot, let it cool right ff, drain it at plastic T screw at bottom f radiator, then refill with plain water ( tank rainwater is better) run, get hot, cool, drain out,,, again,,then

Use 1 bottle f either Redline Water Wetter, or Penrite SIN Coolant, mx as per instructions, ( i use whole bottle) but dont overfill reserve tank.

The SIN/Redline is a better conductor of heat from ketal to Water, as an additive, than the usual ethylene glycols, i see a 10 degree drop in water temp, using after, arket guage in the race 2000, with stock radiator.

You jeed to do the flush/clean bizo to get as mch ethylene glycol out, it acts as a barrier to efficient heat transfer.

Tank/rainwater has less minerals in it, knder to the various metals!

Do you have the under deflector fitted, to scoop air up at bottom f radiator?

If nt I have a spare you can se as a copy to get one made.

Thanks heaps, I will try the filling up procedure next weekend. Does it normally expel the water when the engine is running or when you switch it off?

Just not sure why I can drive it for 30 minutes with no issue, stop and check it and its OK. Then at some time after that seems to have the issue. Its as if the temperature is slowing raising up, maybe its just a radiator cap. What pressure cap to you fit?

Interesting the manual also gives reasons for overheating as "ignition too far retarded" and "incorrect carburettor adjustment". It is missing under load at the moment and I have a intake leak on one throttle of the carbie too (which I cannot find  :().

Running a coolant in it too, I will flush out as you suggest. Thanks for all the suggestions there, experience is always worth is weight in gold.

Not sure about the scoop, will have to have a look.

Make sure the overflow bottle cap is connected correctly. I.e. Pressure from rad runs to tube to btm of overflow reservoir. Otherwise rad will just pump the overflow reservoir contents out upon expansion of liquid. This happened to my 240, reversed cap connections and problem solved.
