zedls1 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Hi all, on christmas eve i drove the zed to work, started no problem, stopped for a coffee on the way to work. when i jumped back in the car, turned the key and she wouldn't start, it was making clicking sound like a relay switch. I tried this a few times and it eventually started. Happened again later the same day and eventually started again. Today it started no problem, i did this afew times with no issues and then it did it again. I've checked the inginiton relay and most wiring around the relays and even around the ingition barrel. A bit stuck with what it could be? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. regards John Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted December 27, 2014 Moderators Posted December 27, 2014 Gidday, The clicking indicates that the wiring is fine. The clicking sound is the solenoid engaging or attempting to engage the primary drive of the starter. I would be looking at the starter motor itself, is the drive gear in the nose moving forward when power is applied to the solenoid ?. Try the following. 1. Apply +12V direct to starter, does the motor turn over, if yes solenoid is suspect, if no starter is suspect. Let us know what happens. Cheers Quote
gilltech Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 As per PB260Z re starter motor or solenoid most likely, or, could actually be a bad connection at the battery or earth strap. Quote
zedls1 Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Hey PB260Z and gilltech, thanks i'll try that and let you know. regards John Quote

Good point, always a great idea to clean the battery and and earth strap connections before heading to deeper problems. Cheers PB Quote
zedls1 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Hey chaps, I think its sorted, one black wire connected to the starter was a bit suspect, a bit loose and easy to pull off, better contact now, cleaned battery terminals and checked all other connections, see how we go, thanks again for your suggestions. regards John Quote
