240z71 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Hey guys Done some searching and found more questions than answer for my problem. I'm trying to treat the surface rust that has build over the years in hard to get places. The two main ones being the air vent tunnel that goes from the front of the engine bay into the cabin as well as the inside of the rear quater panels. I can see these areas through all the various holes in the interior and up through the vent holes.I was reading about penetrol and think it's the way to go. Then I read to put it with a primer, I'm using epoxy primer can I put it with that? If so how will I spray the mixture in the tight areas once mixed? How do I prep the area if I can't get to it?. Has anyone just sprayed it by itself without primer and left it. Sorry about the abundance of questions but I'm a bit stuck. If anyone has treated these areas before got any advice or solutions? Thanks Quote
dat2kman Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Some auto stores sell air powered spray canisters that have longer flexible tube/nzzles. Or engine bay cleaning units, these tend to have a straight fixed steel tube with a fine nozzle. Mainly use kerosene for degreasing. Product called Fergusons is a black tarr type spray can, it has a short tube to get it onto holes on chassis frames and into rails etc. Fish Oil type products stink, but are very effective. Not so great if you already have surface rust. If so, Phosphoric Acid solutions ie Rust Converter, will need to be used, again using the long flexible nozzle in the air powered can.. That can be painted ver, once dry, but ts a messy job! Quote
peter t Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I used Lanolin and had it dripping out for days after spraying it into all the hard to reach places with the degreaser gun Jason is talking about. It will mist really good out of this gun and does not stink like fish oil. It is also easy clean up with paint thinner type products. Handy doing it on the rotisserie like I did to ensure it gets into all the right places when car is upside down. Hope this helps. Quote
zed74 Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 SW2 Curing Oil is the best product I have found - can be used elsewhere & painted over too... Quote
