74zzz Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Hi All Anyone have some pics of the back of the oil gauge? My water Temp works but my oil pressure does not. Car has a dodgy mechanical replacement gauge screwed into the bottom of the dash right where my left knee knocks it. Long story short....after storing for 5 years a rodent has eaten the nylon tube of the replacement gauge so now it too does not work. Wondering weather i just replace the tube or pull out the console and try and get the original working...... is it mechanical also? besides the gauge and harness on the back is there any other bits i need to reconnect it? i have bought a NOS sender unit for the engine also Cheers Lawrence Quote
Linton Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 nah mate it is an electrical unit, the wiring is incorporated in the dash loom Quote
74zzz Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 hmmm......can I assume that if the water temp works and the oil pressure does not that all the electrics should be intact? is it a combined loom or separate plugs for each function? might pull it out anyway and see if the dial itself is broken and needs fixing.... cheers Quote
Scoota G Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Does the sender unit look like this? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161476403108?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 It's bolted on right next to the oil filter. Quote
74zzz Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Pretty much not exactly but is definitely a l28 specific item....whys that? Quote
Scoota G Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Just might be faulty is all mate. Could be the reason the gauge is not working. Quote
Linton Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 to test the gauge disconnect the sender unit, ground the wire from the loom side of the sender unit, hop in car and turn ign on watch gauge it should move across to high. if it does this then gauge is ok, so the fault is in the sender unit Quote
74zzz Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Ahh Im with you....havent installed new sender unit yet was just trying to figure out if i needed anything else as the dash was cleaned out by previous owner so not sure if anything else is missing. Cheers Linton will have a look in the next few days....is there 2 connections for the water and oil or combined plug? thanks Quote
Linton Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 no, mostly there is one connector to the oil sender, if you have two could be different system but I suspect in a double, one wire would be an earth good luck Quote
