Z. Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Anyone know if the seals inside 280zx brakes (calipers) are generic o rings that can be bought off the shelf? I dont want to open them unless I have replacments Quote
Cozza Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 G'day the piston seals are a square cross section and I imagine would be available from your local brake shop within a caliper kit. The 240z caliper kits are about $25, I imagine the 280zx kits would be a similar price. If you pull them apart, have a good look at the pistons for pitting and corrosion before reassembly and replace with new ones if evident. Staining can be cleaned up with a 1200 grit wet and dry paper. Hope that helps Mick Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 30, 2014 Moderators Posted August 30, 2014 What I used to do as what I believe if you are lpaying with brakes, if you not sure what you're doing, leave it to the proffesionals! I used to take my calipers to my local "Better Brakes" and let them rebuild them. WHen you get them back, the are spotless, look great and ready to bolt on and you know all the correct parts are in it. Cost is a bit more but for the time and effort, its worth it. Quote

Agree, same for steering racks or steering boxes. The penalty for a failure can be extreme Quote

The reason I ask is the bloke at the shop couldnt seem to find a service kit for them when I called but I think he was new and a bit confused at what I was after so I thought I'd double check they are available. Didn't want to open them up if I couldn't replace them Definitely agree that you shouldn't play with your brakes of you're not sure what your doing. Most important part on the car! Quote
