Hi all,

Does anyone know who bought this 1972 Olive Green (#113) Automatic 240z off eBay last month? Auction: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240z-Sports-1972-2D-Coupe-classic-collectors-MUST-SELL-/231241817163?pt=AU_Cars&_uhb=1&hash=item35d7161c4b&nma=true&si=6I7L8cos0KqtQVpDF8IuiGWQUk0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I was very intent on buying it as my first 'Z', as it seemed to be the ideal one I have been patiently waiting and saving for... Anyway, i'd like to know whether  the new owner is a member of 'ZCar'. Does anyone know? I'd really like to keep updated on what work they've planned and/or undertaken - (I'm hoping they'll keep it fairly original looking, it looks stunning as pictured!)

And I'm sure most of you have figured, but just to affirm, I'm a new member here, so hello! :D

Oh, and if anyone know's of another 240z similar to the one I was interested in that is reasonably complete, has a straight body and is kinda close to Brisbane, please let me know! I know they're becoming quite scarce, but I remain hopeful that something will eventually come up.

Manual would be preferred, and a relatively low price would be nice... well, great actually... But sadly of course, that really isn't possible nowadays, unfortunately - (for me)  :'(

Anyway, thank you for your time!

Have a wonderful day  ;D

Hello and welcome.

It was me that bought it.  Also a long time Z admirer who had finally taken the plunge !!

I am looking to keep it fairly original looking.  Lowering springs, new wheels and possibly a front air dam are the only real cosmetic things I'm considering.  All of them will be done in a way that makes it a couple of hours to get it back to factory spec.  Whilst the 113 green colour is a Datsun factory colour - this car did not roll off the production line wearing it.  It was originally cream according to the PPSR search I had done.  My wife's favourite colour is green and I quite like it so green it shall remain!

My build thread is here:

Something to be wary of  - I bought the car knowing that to get it driveable and roadworthy I'd need to add a bit of money again so the purchase price is not the true price  :D.  Even so I still got a shock when I found out how much actually needed to be done for roadworthy vs what I thought I might be up for!!  I'd guessed when I nought I might need to spend and additional 3 to 5 grand to get it registered and the interior tidied up.  Lets just say I've already spent that on parts............  although I've gone with upgrading some of the stuff that needs replacing and could have gone for cheaper options in some cases.

You had me worried for a split second there, ha!

Hi Andy! All of my uncertainties were answered so much faster than I'd anticipated. I'm glad I can keep up with your build thread, though it seems like a little more work is required on the car than I'd thought  ??? When do you expect you'll have it on the road? Great to hear you're taking necessary time and doing a proper job! I'll need to subscribe to your build thread and catch up on what you've already completed.

Thanks for the response :)

Whilst the 113 green colour is a Datsun factory colour - this car did not roll off the production line wearing it.  It was originally cream according to the PPSR search I had done.

Judging by the ebay photos, I'd have to say the PPSR (whoever they are) are wrong. Sounds like they made a data entry error when converting their printed records into electronic format. Cream, rhymes with green, or an OCR scanning error. Its known to happen. My chassis nuber starts with H530 (yes thats a number 5 not an S on the official records).

That combined with the fact that there was never a factory cream colour for the  240Z, and that the inside of the tool boxes are green with the original jack stowage sticker on them, I'd guarantee  99.9% probablility it was originally 113 metallic green.

The only way to completely change the color of a car is to do a complete tear down to a bare shell. This car, althouth it has had a bare metal respray on the outside (said the ebay advert), the interior looks fairly standard for the age (chrome peeling off the door cards, general wear) and so does the engin bay.

Look up under the dashboard, is it green? Behind the firewall insulation? Under the transmission tunnel vinyl?

Your car is originaly 113 Metallic green. Cream is an error.

Mr Camo is correct; Datsun didn't do cream back then, only a bright white & some very pale shades of various colours.

As he says, best way to verify is look under the carpet, tool bins, on the driveshaft tunnel under the console, under the carpets, behind the dash, underside of floors & spare wheel well, etc etc. Not to mention the engine bay itself.
