Underbody Ashphalt/Tar Removal. Any suggestions?

Hi guys,

 

To the restorers, have you guys removed underbody ashphalt or tar? What proceedure or products did you guys use?

 

Is there any good products out there that would  make this product quick and easy?

I have heard from a lot of race drivers that freezing it and chipping it off is the easiest and quickest method, using that stuff in a can, but im not sure how cheap it would be.

If its the actual 'underbody' deadener on the under side of the car, then a heat gun & scraper is the go,

OR get it media blasted.

 

If it's the body deadener in the cabin, then use Dry Ice and a cold chisel & hammer.

if its just the spray on stuff then petrol or thinners gets it off but messy as hell

Media blasting wont get it off in my experience. Just bounces off.

 

The best way I have found is using an angle grinder, knotted wire wheel, ear muffs and face shield.

The under body stuff will dissolve with petrol and a brillo pad. messy, but easy.

 

The Stuff in the car, Heat gun and paint scraper works.
