Hi everyone,

 

I've recently had a 280zx come into my hands! My girlfriend's brother decided to give it to me as he hadn't touched it for years and is well aware of my z obsession. When he owned it he stripped it, sold the engine and had the whole car professionally painted, however he never put it back together :( So that's where I come in :) After I put it all back together the car will be fully complete besides motor and gearbox.

 

I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do with the car but I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the costs of getting this sort of work done (and where to get it done!) :

[*] Drop in an SR20DET Engine + Box - will probably need a new drive shaft too? (Is an RB engine easier/cheaper?)

[*]Install Limited Slip Diff

[*]Refurbish Targa Roof

[*]Hub and brake conversion, from perhaps an R33 GTR or Spec R Silvia??

[*]Full suspension setup (i.e. coilovers, strut braces, sway bars etc)

[*]Replacing all rubber seals (not sure if the whole car needs to be done)

Sounds like you got it for the right price.

 

If you're paying someone yo do this work for you, allow plenty of money.

I'd suggest you get handy with the tools and do as much as you can yourself, as long as it's to a high standard got safety.

Rubbers can be sourced from USA, black dragon, MSA there's quite a few places.

Suspension is more limited for ZX's. But look into S13 coil over mods. That's what I'm doing.

I was planning on doing pretty much everything myself except the engine and gearbox installation.

I wanted to do a hub conversion because there's a much wider range of wheel options for 5 x 114.3 and it makes the brake upgrade easier doesn't it?

Planning on taking my time enjoying the build, hopefully have it done within a year then sell my current car and use it as a daily if all goes well, then when I can afford to run two cars I'll probably turn it into a track monster ;)
