zzzzed Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I know there are a couple of different variants of round top su carbs. I have a bucket of parts from different round tops and some of the bells have more screws than others. Are the differences cust cosmetic or is one better than the other? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 22, 2014 Administrators Posted February 22, 2014 I don't think any are 'better' than the other. In terms of performance. Might be harder to find parts for the earlier ones though. Quote
dat2kman Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 If looking for SU carbs, models to look out for are HS6 (1 3/4") and HS8 (2") all arepre-emmission type Various Brit cars. Parts and rebuild kits are plentifull. Hitachi licensed SU type, largest was 1 3/4" early ones are pre-emmissions, and perform slightly better than later type emmission carbs, due to less internal passages. Theycan be bored out and a larger butterfly plate made. Setting up a mandrel holder is not hard. All done in a lathe. Experiment on a later type Hitachi, before you ruin a good early one. Quote
zzzzed Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Thanx guys. I have been given a choice between a set of early or late round tops I think I will take the early set. Quote
