Hi Guys,

I'm am a new member to viczcar and I'm here to learn.  I have previously owned an R33 Skyline and an R34 Skyline.  I've put pictures of both below.

I am originally from Perth and I've moved to Canada for a 2 year work visa.  This meant that my R34 (my car at the time) had to sadly be let go.  My plan, however, is to aim to get a 240z when I move back to Perth in mid 2015 as a project car.  I have been doing a lot of reading on this and other forums and it looks like finding something will be a challenge.  My aim would be to buy a rolling shell and restore it with an RB25DET Neo engine.  R34 halfcuts are not too bad in price and I should be able to get most of what I need from that.  I have seen that this conversion is not uncommon, so it gives me a bit more confidence in the success of such a project.

As I have said, I'm here to learn.  I know quite a bit about Skylines, but this is going to be a new challenge to me.  Look forward to meeting some of you one day with a my completed project car. :)

welcome!

Would it be possible to buy a zed in canada, or from the US, and then in a years time, just import it back with you as a personal import.

You would waive all the garbage import taxes being a personal import you have owned for over 1 year,  probably only cost you 3-5k for shipping, and i dare say you could get a nicer zed for the price over there.

Yep personal import is pretty easy and with a 30+ year old car it's even easier for compliance etc..

If you're going to import from the US/Canada (which I would highly recommend), as opposed to buying a local car (especially in W.A) then go with these guys are your import brokers.

Shipping is the cheap part, it's the quarantine, warf fees, compliance, road worthy costs that add up.

I was thinking about importing from Canada as an option. In fact there is a Z specialist workshop about half an hours drive from where I live which would be really handy.  The only issue is I would prefer getting a RHD to own in Australia.  I am planning on visiting these guys and seeing what is possible.  If the car is essentially identical, then starting from a rolling shell wouldn't be difficult to convert and getting a Z here would be ideal! I want to do as much of the work myself as I can, but I just need to understand a little more about the specifics before I get one here.

Don't know if any of you have had any experience with these guys from the other side of the world, but I'll check them out and let you guys know what they can offer.
