Administrators gav240z Posted January 20, 2014 Administrators Posted January 20, 2014 So I just realised we don't really have a category on the forum for hints and tips and processes to help with restoration work etc.. but while looking up plastic chrome re-plating I came across this video from Jay Leno garage. Which shows a non-toxic spray that can be used to reproduce those Chrome trim pieces found on things like the rear light dressing, the door cards, the heater panel, the air vents in the dash etc.. on the S30Z. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-1cTpSZ1l8 Pretty cool stuff and what looks like a great finish. OZZ240 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 and you can buy the stuff from here http://www.alsacorp.com/products/chromefx/ Quote
George Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Not bad at all. I thought it would cost a packet but it's actually pretty affordable. Cheers Quote
Lukas Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Wow, that looks awesome. I was expecting it to be super finicky (like regular paint: runs, orange peel etc), but then he just sprays heaps of it on and it turned out perfectly. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 20, 2014 Author Administrators Posted January 20, 2014 Yeah it looks pretty straight forward, I wonder how many Zeds you could do with 1 kit? The only thing that isn't clear to me is if you need to do some kind of prep work or prep paint first? I mean other than clean it and remove grease etc.. is there a specific primer that allows it to bond? I think I'll definitely give it a go, I've seen OEM parts listed on eBay that are plastic chrome plated selling for $150 - $200 sometimes. Quote

The Alsacorp basic pump kit does 25 square feet. I would guess after messing around with it and doing some tests you would get about 15 square feet. Quote
