While the 240z is off the road I've removed the old and tattered glovebox. I've seen Stivva's stereo install which is really cool but I'm wondering if anyone has been able to replace the glovebox itself with a plastic or aluminium unit?

I've seen on hybridz that a 280z glovebox works as a replacement and is plastic (needs minor modification apparently) but am not sure if this would only work in a LHD car.

Has anyone seen or tried anything like this with success?

Nice! Have you used the area that did house the fuse box for anything else?

Don't suppose you have any pics floating around.. ? Would love to see how it turned out.

James,

the original cardboard units are effectively folded and stapled,

im sure a replacement can be made at a cost from any of your desired materials.

Of course - though mine has seen better days the structure is still there for me to use as a template of sorts.

I'm keen to see what others have done with success/failure so that I can do a good job with "good" design on the first attempt, rather than discover a pitfall then re-do it. Relocating the fuse box would be unnecessary for me but I hadn't even considered it, which is exactly why I asked. I'm fairly certain I'll use sheet metal and fabricate something, plastic is more difficult for me and probably less sturdy.

I used the plastic inner glovebox from my 260 parts car. Just needed a little shave on the outer edges to remove the lip and in she went.

Did all 260z gloveboxes come in plastic? For some reason I thought they were still cardboard.
