Hi guys,

Hope all of you are looking forward to the Christmas break!

I'm not sure if I'm looking in the wrong places but I can't seem to find a S13 or S14 gearbox and when I do come across one, they're asking for top dollar and offering no warranty!

Has anyone got any suggestions as to where I can source one? I've converted to the S13 box in my 240Z; the current box is still ok (just) but my syncro's are one the way out and 3rd gear under load sounds like a touring car  :o

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the S14 box is the better option as Nissan refined the design of the sandwich plate that stopped oil from pooling in the back of the box.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

Marc.

What about rebuilding yours? Noise is probably just the bearings, I did my RB20det box with a photocopied manual and zero previous experience. Does yours have the larger front bearing or did you use the L series size? If so, it may not have enough strength for the turbo setup.

Regarding the oil flow problems, I contacted PPG and they said it's only an issue in drifting due to the constant G loading. You could mod your current one to match the way they do it, see pic.

Thanks for the feedback gents.

I was considering rebuilding the box, not sure where to get syncro's from. I've got the manual for the box, more than happy to pull it down and replace bearings/syncro's.

I used the L series bearing, but its 3rd gear that making all the noise. Would like to get my hands on another box so there's little down time and then look at rebuilding the current box so at least I have a spare. Was hoping to go to a few wreckers today but feeling a little seedy after the work Christmas party

Would be really nice to get a T5 box or T5 bell housing from a 280zx turbo but I'd say they're pretty hard to come by here.

Thanks again guys, appreciate the help!

Where you located? If you go onto driftsales nsw on Facebook and make a wtb you'll get one

14 ones are generally more desirable cause they're newer, and come out of adm cars as well so better chance of them being maintained properly. You can pay upto $800 for a 14 box with warranty, I wouldn't pay more than $400 from a random with no warranty.

If you wanna do the bearings and its obvious it just one of the bearings on the end of the shafts then that's easy, but when you pull it apart to do the ones in the plate you'll wish you just got a good condition box

I got all my bearings and syncros from Stuart Wilkins Motorsport in Sydney. Price was ok, good jap bearings and all genuine Nissan syncros.

Probably worth upgrading to the bigger front bearing if its not done already. You'll have to get the bell housing machined for this though.
