R200 Locking Pin

After a noise from the rear end i stripped down my diff and found the Pinion Mate Shaft locking pin had sheared, apon stripping down  a spare R200 i found that one was also on it's way out. Easy enough to get another but just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? A part number may also be handy for future reference.

These are a bit of straight round, slide fit, and held in by a hammered punch indent on each side.

Any diff shop should replace these on a carrier teardown,,,,, should!!

Try a diff shop for some straight shaft, alternataively, you could be very lucky and get a bit of bolt shank, knock off the head and thread, trim to length and fit.

 

Slide or very slight press fit, must not be loose!

Just got 2 from local Bolts and Fasteners @ 50 Cents a pop.

Yep I had one in my R200 diff shear many yrs ago, result was that the gears carrier would slide & contact other parts, lots of metal filings inside; replaced unit with another from a parted-out low mileage 260 as was way cheaper than having original diff rebuilt.

Don't know why it happened, I hadn't been rough with the car in the 12 months I'd owned it, but maybe a PO of which there were many, was.
