daniel.harmsworth Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Hi guys in dan from morayfield Brisbane. Always been into Japanese cars, owned heaps of evos and wrxs but now need to settle down with a one car of a lifetime, my favourite car Datsun 240z. Wanna put a rb26dett engine or a rb25det in her Anyone know of a good base car laying around ? Dan 0409002770 Quote
George Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Hey Dan. Welcome aboard. There aren't that many 240's around and if you're set on one you'll have to keep your eye out in all the usual places. It's a pretty long list of people that are in the market for one. Your other option is a 260Z but even they are getting hard to find. There is a 260 up your way that has been on the market for a while. It might be worth a look. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-260Z-1975/SSE-AD-2239609/?Cr=0&sdmvc=1 Good luck with your search and I hope you find that one car of a lifetime. ;-) Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 22, 2013 Administrators Posted September 22, 2013 The general pattern of the market is that there will be very few cars on the market at a given point in time. Often for months on end, then there will be a period of multiple good prospects on the market within a 6 month period and then nothing again. Many of the cars that come up for sale are cars that were bought and sold a few years ago and people move on. I suspect many cars though are in private hands with people planning to keep their cars. Given how few good ones are left, it seems the cars that show up most often are the projects in need of rust or damage repair. Everyone wants to put an RB in 1 these days, but I would urge anyone thinking of doing it to first drive a well sorted L-series powered Z first. They are a lot of fun, even at 150-200 HP. Quote
RB26DETT Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 I agree with Gav! a zed with a strong L6 is a lot of fun as these cars are so light. L6 sound awesome too. Installing an Rb can be a costly and long drawn out process by the time you do all the associated mods needed as a package, I've done it once and can't say that I would do it again. Easier way and cost effective to enjoy an RB is just to buy a Skyline? Quote
dat2kman Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 The RB convo's are like ar-soles, every one has one! Whadda bout something bit different? SR20 Det! Car will be better balanced. Quote
ZED83 Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 I'm a 100% with Gav on sticking with the L series motor! I resently had mine built to a 3.2 stroker with fuel itbs. I just can't explain how crazy an unreal it is, the sound it makes and the torque off the cam ill just say it drives like a sports car now! You'll have second thoughts if I took you for drive. Quote
