The time has come for the brown hornet to find a new set of seat belts.

Does anybody have an original set of OEM original seat belts with steel buckles they might be willing to part with?

Alternatively, has anybody bought the new MSA 240Z seat belt kit? Just wondering how these function (if anybody has them) and if infact they are compliant to Australian laws?

I also mentioned some holes that are located behind my seats in the box section just in front of the rear tray riser panel (mine is a June 71 car) that very much appear factory cut. Suspect these had gromets in them (on both sides of the box section - upper and lower) but wonder if they are there for the purpose of installing inertia reels for later year models?

Any feedback whatsoever on this topic, greatly appreciated.

Adam.

could you get your existing seatbelts refurbished/rebuilt?

We use a mob called "Seat Belt King" though work, they are currently trying to get more business out of us in repairing any vandal damaged seat belts in the few buses we service, they already do that for several companies in VIC and elsewhere.

If anything, it may be worth sending Peter (a nice bloke running the show) an email asking if he can restore your originals?

Hi Alan,

Many thanks for mentioning that service to me mate, I do appreciate you passing that idea on. Only issue is that my 'originals' are far gone, and my car is left with some grubby plastic rubbish ones, well past their used by date too. Will keep the SB King in mind though, in case i'm able to stumble over some original buckles.

Thanks again,

Adam

Adam, I have the MSA retractables on my car and they are great.  I don't know if they are compliant with any Australian rules, but I know they would be 100x safer than my 40year old fixed belts that were never adjusted and loose.

They only issue is that where the reel mounts is behind the seats and that means that you cannot have the seats go all the way back without hitting them.  Not a big deal, but still worth knowing.

Also, although it looks retro and cool, the part of the seatbelt that holds the buckle is not rigid and can get lost underneath the seats.  Good luck with your choice.  :)
