Toecutter Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ash are you going to put the flares on? Zedophile. What sort of wheels have you got or will you get considering your thinking of flares??? I have just taken some pics with the flairs and also experimenting with side skirts Back to top Toecutter Joined: 13 Mar 2005 Posts: 117 Location: Melbourne Posted: Sat Sep 10, 2005 8:38 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hmmm...I like those flares you brought back from Japan, should look great on the car. Rarely do you see a good looking early Z with side skirts. It seems very much the sort of thing you see some of the US guys doing to their cars along with blowers & raising the rear of the car. I am eager to see what you decide on. What sort of rims have you got? Are you running coil overs to fit those 255's? I'm intending to run something like Speedy Hyperfang IIs, or similar style rim, under standard gaurds - if I were to run flares, I'd prob. have to rethink it. Back to top zr240 Joined: 13 Mar 2005 Posts: 30 Location: Melbourne Posted: Mon Sep 12, 2005 12:31 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yer its got coil overs etc etc. Im running 16x10 performance challenger wheels. the wheels actually fit though with the std suspension but as they are on the road/race car I will definaty be using the coilovers which have my big disks and brakes fitted. yer I know what you mean about side skirts but they look pretty cool with my setup so I will put a pic or two up to see what the verdict is Ash Back to top Toecutter Joined: 13 Mar 2005 Posts: 117 Location: Melbourne Posted: Mon Sep 12, 2005 6:33 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not sure if I read you right Ash, did you say the 10inch challenger wheels fit your car as in don't rub on the standard suspension? I like the challenger wheels. I wonder if they could specially manufacture them at 16x8 & 16x7? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 36_challenger_alloy_wheels[1].jpg Description: Filesize: 28.18 KB Viewed: 3 Time(s) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _________________ 1974 2 seater 260Z Back to top Natez Joined: 13 Mar 2005 Posts: 67 Posted: Tue Sep 13, 2005 2:43 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ashleys challengers look awesome, as they have got some crayz dish... and went well with the old red racer... _________________ 74 Datsun 260z - Project Toyota Corona 5spd "rusty" - daily driver Current Project Status: STRIPED AND BEING WORKED ON Back to top zr240 Joined: 13 Mar 2005 Posts: 30 Location: Melbourne Posted: Tue Sep 13, 2005 4:40 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- yer thats right they fit the car with the std 240 suspension!!!!! I have them off the car at the moment if anyone wants to come around and stickem on there car and have a look. Ash Back to top zr240 Joined: 13 Mar 2005 Posts: 30 Location: Melbourne Posted: Tue Sep 13, 2005 4:42 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also they quoted me $285 each for the 16x10 at the wheel place around the coner as I was thinking of getting a second set. The only prob is there is limeted tyres available that fit 16x10 wheels. I asked them and they only make 10 " in 16s Ash Back to top Toecutter Joined: 13 Mar 2005 Posts: 117 Location: Melbourne Posted: Tue Sep 13, 2005 7:01 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Geez, we've hijacked this thread hey. We should prolly move it over to the WHEELS forum. I'll past the relevant info on the wheels we've been discussing under the WHEELS category so we can continue our discussions on Ash's challenger wheels etc I know I'm eager to try the fitment on my car out of curiosity...hmmm flares are a posibility again. zr240 Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 very nice gav you dont see that deep dish look on many modern cars except maybe drift setups. I love that look! ash Quote
Toecutter Posted September 14, 2005 Author Posted September 14, 2005 Good link Gav. Very informative photos. I wonder how wide the tyres are? I've done some investigating and PERFORMANCE offer the challenger in 10 inch wide only for the 16 inch rim. I was hoping they would take a custom order for 8.5 inch wheels for the two on the front. 10 inch would be fine at the back but the front would be very heavy for a road vehicle. By the way Ash as we discussed on the phone I am interested in buying a set of flares should you decide to start making them. Sulio Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 14, 2005 Administrators Posted September 14, 2005 Yeah I'd be interested too Quote
Toecutter Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 What do you guys think about the look of 16x10 challengers at the rear and 15x8 challengers at the front with flares of course!? Then again the other choice being 15x10 rear and 15x8 at the front! Sulio Quote
zr240 Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 of course i will say they would look good!! how did you go with performance wheels re the 16 x 8.5? Quote
Toecutter Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 No good Ash. In 16 they only make them 10 inch wide. I could get them narrowed but this is illegal and I've been tol dangerous. It's a shame coz 16's would have looked great. So the option is going back to 15 inch diameter wheels which they can supply in 8 inch and also 10 inch wide, which would be a good combination for a 225x55 tyre for the front 8 inch rim and 245x50 for the rear 10 inch rim. Only remaining issue is if the stretch on the 245 on 10 inch wide is too much?? Looking at the link Gav provided above re the Watanabe/Flare combo, the guy had a few issues getting 245 on the 9.5 inch wide wats but then again they are 16 inch diameter wats!!! So when can we pick up our flares Ash!?   Sulio Quote
Zeddophile Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 well, 245's are a shade over 9.5 inches wide, so with a sidewall profile of 50 (or 122.5 mm) you shouldn't have big issues with the stretch - if it concerns you, go up to 255s, which are 10 inch wide. Or you could fit the tyres i'm getting next week - in metric, they are 295/80 R15 - or 34x11.5 inch. Might have traction problems though, since they are 'extreme' offroad tyres Quote
Toecutter Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 hmmm...zedophile you should try those on the Z and go for that 4WD look S30! Quote
