Matt Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Heya guys, Picked up a 260z 2seater last week so thought i'd join in the fun Late car, very minor rust, mostly complete, l28,240z carbs, yellow with stripes. the yellow i dont mind but the stripes kinda kill it. Car has alot of potential in my eye's and i'll be heading for the typical and overdone jdm look. Probably paid too much for it but really couldn't help myself once i saw the condition, so use to repairing rust buckets. I have been a panel beater for about 13 years so i like to think i know what i'm looking at too. Will be a slow and steady build but i have a clear goal in mind, hope to be here for the long haul. Moderators PB260Z Posted April 25, 2013 Moderators Posted April 25, 2013 Gidday Matt Welcome to Auszcar, any chance of posting up a few photo's of the Yellow Z. If you are looking for fun you will find it here, although some of the humour is a bit "off centre" Good luck with the project. Cheers PB Quote
boyblunda Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Hi Matt and welcome Whenever we hear of someone getting a Zed it is a relief to see that they are aware of and know about rust and body repairs as this is probably the biggest single issue that new owners have with their vehicles. If you are on top of that issue then the joy of owning and driving a Zed is all before you as the options you have with regard to restoration / modification are boundless. Looking forward to seeing your car project with pics when you are ready. We are already thirsting for details of car history, how you came to buy it, your intentions, and details as they unfold. I appreciate the 260Z for the refinements it received ands note that you have already got a vehicle taken further with the round top carb swap, and L28. The local WA Zed guys are a good bunch - see the WAZ Register to register your car details if so inclined. The next event that I am aware of is the Albany event on the June long weekend - always well supported by the Zed guys. The local guys are also on the lookout for good panel and paint providers so let us know if you are in the game to provide this service. Give us some more details and pics when ready. Regards Dave Quote
Matt Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 cheers for the welcome, will start my slow build thread eventually. car's been up on stands a couple of weeks now trying to sort the steering rack, parts proving difficult. once its driving again i'll take some snaps as everyone has seen a Z in progress. later, Matt Quote

Matt Posted May 5, 2013 Author Posted May 5, 2013 oh dear. I think I may have scared him off. My bad. lol, been going thru alot of forums digging up info and pricing parts up. got a fair bit of stuff in the post, surely more to come. will be interested in a few odd bits for the car too, love wreckers and their treasure troves. trying to find koni's to suit the later 76 struts, they have a larger OD but ID is only like a mm wider. looking for clarity on the swap, so i can try and do the whole swap in a day. maybe a little longer finding the right spot for coilover perch. been going over it so much i can remember the part numbers.. so if i was to order 4x Koni 8610-1437 and 4x gland nuts (73.25.01.007.1) section front and rear strut tubes ~2inch space the rear the rest on the length drill out the stock top hat to suit the 5/8 shaft would this work? or would i need to sleeve/replace the strut tube for a firmer fit? or replace the upper mounts with a different item? Please say it'll work perfect... Cheers Quote
Matt Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 well after a few more hours of forum flicking it seems you can use 240 inserts in the larger housings, just pack it tightly and add some oil. guess i'll have specifics when i attempt it, just wing it got 1 thing in the mail today too decent quality and fit front lip, just makes it perfect Quote
