G Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Has anyone done the Hilux front brake swap and NOT changed the master cylinder from standard 240? I'm struggling to find a Type I ZX master cylinder, but at this stage I'm keeping the standard rear drums so I thought perhaps a 1" MC would be overkill. Interested in feedback! Cheers G Quote
dat2kman Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 The only issue you may have is marginally more pedal travel, due to a slightly higher square millimetre total piston area increase. Keep the pedal adjusted to tolerance and try it. Quote
G Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 That's what I was thinking. I'm not going the vented option (trying to keep it truly as "bolt-on" as possible), so I'm hoping it's not TOO different. Quote
Scoota G Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 We did that on Sam's (Bozo) Zed and even with a rear disc conversion his stock master cylinder worked perfect. Quote
G Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 What pads did you end up using for the fronts? Quote

zed240au Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 i ran with std master cylinder for years no problem with both non vented and later vent hilux calipers and disc brake rear Mick Quote
Scoota G Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Anyone got a part number for the pads? Someone get this guy a computer, Stat!! Quote
G Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 :)fair call. The reason I asked was because there's actually multiple part numbers listed by TRW for the same model caliper. Additionally, there's more than one hilux listed for the same year. For anyone reading this thread in future, I found this article on the subject to be one of the clearer examples: http://drivendaily.org/s30-toyota-brake-upgrades/ Quote
Scoota G Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Yea they do that Hopefully another helpful chap with the info (neither of which are me) will chime in. Quote
